Motorola sbg6580
I have the motorola sbg6580 with firmware SBG6580-3.5.8.4-GA-00-505-NOSH.
When I initially hooked up my internet I had blazing fast wireless speeds around 50mbps based on speed test and over time it has dropped to around 15mbps and I have done nothing to change it, I've power cycled it and reset factory settings and no change and the home configura/tion is the same, it just slowed down one day and hasn't recovered. Straight lan I get 50 to 70mbps, what's happening here? If you look at my account history you will see I've had nothing but problems with cox, I REALLY don't want to switch providers and please dont blame Motorola too much, I've researched possible issues and many of them are ISP related. Thank you! Jason

if your wireless speeds are fluctuating normally you need to change the wireless channel because you have interference... if you live close to others and they have wireless as well you will be fighting for the same signal. Wireless is not guaranteed EVER and your best bet is to used a direct connection as much as possible.

Definitely agree with Slacker on the no-wifi if you plan to continue using that equipment. Gateways have TERRIBLE wifi compared to a separate modem and router.

+1 for this being a WiFi issue. Since you get full speed wired to the lan, Cox is doing their job getting the signal to your home and thru the modem half of the gateway. Reviews of the sbg6580 on the net almost always complain about the WiFi with this device. Did you move farther away from the gateway? Reviews say WiFi is weak on this one.
Sl4ck3r has good advice, change your wireless channel. Which band are you using? Did you add a device like a wireless telephone? Are you using bluetooth? All these use the 2.4GHz band and can cause interference. To help selecting a channel, you can use the Android app WiFi Analyzer (if you have an Android device, obviously) of Acrylic WiFi on a Windows laptop to "see" what's around you. Select a channel as far away from what's in use as possible, on the 2.4GHz band select 1, 6 or 11, whichever is free.
