I have a Motorola SBG6580 no wireless devices stay connected to it. Any suggestions?

It is not near any of that. From all the complaints I'm reading about it I regret ever buying it. The wireless part of the gateway is truly junk. Most rate it at one star but I don't know how it could be that high. Cox should consider taking it off of their list.

Turn off IP Flood Detection in the firewall and see if that helps.

Try inSSIDer.
Not only can it show you congestion on certain bands and channels, but you can use it to measure signal strength more accurately to find dead spots or problems areas. A wireless network is usually a dynamic thing, with many variables set to automatically adjust to the enviroment. You are right about the SB6580 not having the best wireless, but that goes for all/most gateways for one simple fact; they are cheap. Actually, the SB6580 is probably one of the better gateways out there, but the internal parts and firmware are basement bargains. Check out the WLAN, its the size of a quarter. (Item 1, Internal pictures,Page 4, picture 2)
Best way to fix it is either control some of the variables (interference, wireless settings,etc) or buy a router thats better at dynamically adjusting to those variables.
