I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. All modern stand-alone cable modems don't feature switches of any kind. If you're referring to the standby button that some older Motorola modems had technically it wasn't a power saving feature so much as a security feature to put the ease the minds of those that worried about an always on connection. Motorola/Arris decided to no longer offer that option as how it lead to customer confusion and often calls to technical support.
