Modem upgrade ?

I am running a old Motorola that is 4yrs+ old. I understand to take advantage of the faster speeds you would need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I was thinking about getting a Netgear CG3000D and was wondering if this is compatible with Cox so that I can get the speeds I been missing (smh lol) Also this particular model I can't tell if it is just for the modem or it is a combo modem/router. Thanks

It is a gateway, and probably the worst one Cox uses. I don't suggest it. If your looking for a replacement, try the Motorola SB6141.

Why is it the worse ? Found a deal on Ebay $35 seems to be a good deal but dont want to be disappointed if there is issues with this particular model.

Part of it is seeing all the problems people post here have. Also they are rather cheaply manufactured and the internal antenna leave a lot to be desired. Then there is the fact that its a gateway, which has combined memory, ISP controlled firmware, and very few features. If you want basic wifi that is plug and play, fine, but if you want any kind of performance, go with a stand along with router. YMMV

You are right about that particular modem. I have been doing some research and I am going to mostly likely be getting the SB6141 that modem has outstanding reviews and like the fact that it will last awhile because it's future proof.    I hope I can find a good deal on it on black friday sales.

I just got the Sb6141 called Cox to have them add the modem and provision my account. I am having a dilemma and don't know if I need to upgrade my router which is a Linksys E900. Directly connected to the modem I am getting 59.77mps down and 6.58mbs up. Then if I connect to the router speeds are awful 12.58mbs down and 6.78 up.  Cox instructed me to call Linksys to figure out what is going on.  Called Linksys and my router is out of warranty and they gave me a few options to reset and reconfigure the settings that would cost $29 second option I forgot it was 39$ the third option is to get a new router a dual band AC router. The rep said it would be optimized for the speed I have and would probably be the best bet as she believes the one I have now would not be able to handle the speed???  I don't know if they are just saying that to get me to buy a new router or what. Has anyone had to upgrade their router once they changed to the new modems? If I do have to get a new router any suggestions of what would be compatible and cost effective. The one they are trying to get me to buy is $100 really don't want to spend that if I don't have to. Thx ~Rey
