Modem Set up

I am looking to hardwire a second computer in my house, on the opposite corner and down stairs. Do I need a second modem? If so is there an extra cost associated? Otherwise is it just "easier" to run a hard line from my router?

Thanks,

T

Hi tcole32,

If you were to add a second modem to your account, there would be a second monthly service charge for the internet service to that modem. You can run an ethernet cord from your router to the computer and have service going to the computer that way. Please let us know if you have any questions.

You also might consider a WiFi router and add a WiFi card or USB dongle to the remote PC. Also powerline adapters might work. Examples...

Powerline...

WiFi router and cards/adapters...

FWIW I use that particular router at home for my Win 8.1 laptop, two iPhones and an iPad. I also use the powerline kit for my wife's Win 7 desktop.

Power line adapters work fine.  Just search amazon for "power line Ethernet" and your should come up with high rated units for under $40 per pair.  Connect one to your existing router and the other to your remote PC.  Easy and not very expensive.
