Modem questions
OK, so other than game issues, I need to upgrade my modem. Does this matter in the least?
I have been using my buddies SB6190 and dont really have any issues. I personally have the SB6141. I am paying for the Ultimate and why I have my buddies 6190. He is coming back from his 2 week reserve call and will want it back.
Question I have: Does it really matter between the below models, choosing a different modem? I just dont want to spend more than necessary, keeping in mind that the speeds do not change again. I always want to keep the faster speed(s). I am debating between the CM600 & SB6190. What would be a better choice for the Ultimate Tier Internet. I have a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 router.
CM600 - 24d x 8u channels - How good is this compared to the Motorola Surf Board models? Can it keep up? At what speeds given to my by COX would I need to get a faster or more channel modem?
SB6183 - 16d x 4u channels - This still has the same number channels for the UL as the 6141. Is this even a viable competitor for or as a replacement. Will it hold up to a higher speed? At what speeds given to my by COX would I need to get a faster or more channel modem?
SB6190 - 32d x 8u - Seems like it hasn't had to many issues, just hard to justify $150 if there are comparable modems that will do the same thing. I don't think I would need to worry until the 1GB service was released to everyone, but at that time I would need to switch to a DOCSIS 3.1 model.

I think the CM600 and SB6190 are the same price right? Between those two I would pick the SB6190. Better future proofing, better diagnostics, and better firmware support. The SB6183 would still work, and probably give you the same speed as the SB6190, just with a little less wiggle room. You upload is only 30Mbps, compared to your 300Mbps download, so upstream channels are not as important. With that said, with modems, more is more. Heck, I would buy one myself if I could afford it. Broke until I get my return.

The 6190 is about 30$ more than the CM600. I guess its only 30$ more. Either way if, and thats a big IF, GigaBLAST comes to my neck of the woods I will need another modem any ways. I just hate the equipment COX provides. Its basic junk. I was leaning more to the 6190, just needed a little more justification.

Incorrect. Gigablast is strictly Fiber, no cable modems. GigaSPHERE(or what ever) will launch, which is gigabit over DOCSIS 3.1. It is technically possible to get over 1Gbps with the SB6190, but Cox probably won't allow it because the 3.1 modems will be more efficient.
I guess it comes down to what is more likly to happen first, a increase in speed to Ultimate, or Gigasphere coming to your area. I think it will be atleast a year before customers start seeing it. Since any area that would get DOCSIS 3.1 would also get a speed increase to DOCSIS 3.0, I feel the favor leaning towards the SB6190. However, some of that may be because I want a SB6190 so bad.

I am going to get the 6190. I think it would be the best choice to go with as well. Either way I should be good for the next year or two. This will allow a couple bumps in my speed and stop the need for another modem a year from now. In the beginning I wish tech support would have informed me of this prior to my purchase of the 6141. ** I need to go and spend the extra money a year later. I should heed my own advise when recommending to people what they should get when it comes to computers. Get what you want because spending money on one part just to get it up and running then 3 months later get a better part is not cost effective.
