Modem channel levels
I have a Cisco DPQ3212 DOCSIS 3.0 2-PORT Voice Modem that was provided by the local Cox support office. We don't use this for phone, only Internet.
The upstream power levels reported are:
| Channel 1: | 44.5 dBmV |
| Channel 2: | 44.7 dBmV |
| Channel 3: | 0.0 dBmV |
| Channel 4: | 45.2 dBmV |
Channel 3 is consistently 0.0.
Is this normal for a voice / data modem where voice isn't being used, or should I look into getting a replacement?
thanks,

The signal levels you've posted to appear to be of a concern when I look from here. Are there any splitters you can try bypassing to see if that helps?

Thanks Chris.
First question: should I be seeing ~45 dBmV on Upstream Channel 3? Or is 0 normal on Channel 3 for a data/voice modem where voice is not being used?
There are at least two splitters. As these were both Cox-installed, I prefer not to mess with them.
Outside, the main ("Warning 90V") cable line comes from the pole and goes into an Arris enclosure. That feeds our digital network telephone box, mounted below. It also has a coax cable coming out that goes to the first SV-2G splitter.
One branch goes from this splitter directly to our Mini-box, upstairs.
The other branch goes into the basement and is split by another SV-2G to feed the Cable Modem and the Cable TV Receiver.
One branch from that second splitter goes directly to our Cable TV Receiver.
The other branch has a purple choke installed in-line (no idea what this is - I assume it filters out the Cable TV frequencies), and that coax cable continues on directly to the DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem.
Hope this is helpful. As I say, I'm hesitant to bypass either of these splitters, as they were installed by Cox technicians.
thanks again,

The 0db on that one channel basically indicates that the channel is active but may have been at one time and was lost. Rebooting may get it back but it could be a symptom of a larger signal or equipment problem.

Thanks Chris.
I've power-cycled the modem several times. So far, upstream channel 3 is always 0dBmV.
Would that indicate a problem with the modem, or something else?
thanks again,

I'd say it seems you have a signal or equipment issue based on what you've described. It may be time to arrange for a tech to come investigate further.
