Hello TinkersToys,

The minibox remote will not work with all tv's. What make and model tv are you currently trying to program the remote to?

Thanks,

hi tinker!

i'm one of the "aspect ratio with older tv's" posters & we only had one issue with the remote. there's a tv in the kitchen that we never could get to work with the remotes.  it was an oddball brand. the tech on the phone told us to exchange the (bad evolution) mini box, it must be defective.  well, we had the same problem with the new one, so we switched tv's for a name brand. still couldn't get it to work so we just put it on a different tv.

fast forward (weeks!) and i now have the cisco mini boxes that work with the older tv's, and we STILL couldn't get one to work there!

then we figured it out...

we are in an old (think duck tape) neighborhood that does not have the infrastructure for all this fancy stuff & the cable that was run for this tv outlet (and the one in the livingroom, which i'm sure will have the same problem) was run off the main tv downstairs in the family room.

THAT t'vs mini box controls our KITCHEN tv too!

you didn't say how many boxes or tv's this pertains to. so, make sure that tv isn't being controlled by a "master" in another room.

we are choosing to live with this as it will save us the cost of renting another minibox. we just have to go downstairs to change channels.

lovely!

and that is why we love cox soooo much!

There is no such thing as a "master" outlet or Coax output.

I am also fairly certain the Cox infrastructure outside your home, in your neighborhood is up to date to support all services.

In older homes, the installation may have coax splitters, somewhere in the middle of a run, but that would only effect the signal level, which may effect the ability of the Mini box to function correctly.  Sounds like it may be time to upgrade your indoor coax wiring.  Having more than four or five (4 or 5) active outlets may require a signal amp.

A Digital device requires a stronger and cleaner signal.  The old Analog signal could be split multiple times without much noticeable difference,  An Analog signal might work and look fine as low as -20 dB to -25 dB, but a Digital signal will need to be above -15dB but better yet, should be greater than -10 dB to -7 dB.

In a proper modern installation, all indoor Coax cable runs should be separate and terminate at the outside Cox box, or an inside terminal panel where the Cox main line comes in.
