Mini Box to laptop via hdmi
I have a coax outlet in my garage, but I don't have a TV out there. I do have a laptop with an HDMI port. I would like to plug in the Cox mini box, using the hdmi connection provided, into my laptop so I can watch TV.
Basically, I just want my laptop to function as a TV screen. I will change channels and volume on thee mini box with the cox-provided remote.
Just looking for plug & play, so I can simply view TV on my laptop screen rather than a TV (which I don't have).
Is this possible? Any suggestions how to do this?
Thanks!

What model laptop do you have? Most laptop hdmi ports are output only, not input. If you have an hdmi-in port, yes, it's possible, if not, it's not possible. If you have internet access in your garage, you can stream tv directly to your laptop using: https://www.cox.com/residential/tv/watch-tv-online.html without the need for a cable outlet or STB.

Every laptop I have seen with a HDMI input also has a seperate HDMI output, so since OP said only had 1 HDMI port, doubt it's input. You can get a HDMI>USB video adapter, but that will effect the resolution depending how fast your USB ports are.
::Edit:: Silly me, thats for HDMI output. Not as many HDMI input adapters, but I found this one. Then again, for 159$ you could just get a monitor with speakers.

Hi Zupppp,
A TV tuner for your PC is also an option. A TV tuner is a device used to connect a digital TV signal to your computer. Some PC TV tuners connect to a CableCARD instead of connecting to the mini box.
I think AllenP's answer is right on the money: stream live TV and On Demand content from your home network at https://watchtv.cox.com. Are you able to connect to your home network while in your garage?

Thank you for your response. Very helpful posts, and I appreciate that!
Makes sense that my "hdmi OUT" won't be able to process incoming tv signals.
I have a HD Homerun tv tuner, which I use with cox, so - great suggestion - why not just drag setup to the garage. I started on that project but had problems with my windows 7 desktop, so I scrapped that plan, and went with the easiest solution:
https://www.cox.com/residential/tv/watch-tv-online.html
Fortunately, my windows 10 laptop gets a good enough signal so I can simply watch streaming TV in the garage.
Great suggestions! Thank you all.
