Mini box problems

So I connected my cox cable new "mini-box" but as soon as I connected. I program the new remote, but for some reason I lost a my basic cable channels. I think i'm going to disconnected and connect back again from the wall. I will at least get my basic cable channels again. How do I go about receiving my basic cable channels using the mini box or in HD supposedly?

Hi Edwin, what channels are you missing? Have you run a channel scan yet?

Not for long. That is the point of the mini boxes. You have to have them on any TV you want cable on. They only get you the channels you were getting straight from the wall, when everything is working correctly. Sounds like you had some activation issue. Did it complete the on screen activation process without fault?

I have the same error and also went through channel scan and set up. I have two mini boxes and both had the same problem.

Hi!  This is my first ever post...  

I have Starter / Economy TV service. 

I too have the new mini box here in Norfolk, VA.  Install was very easy.  However, I am also missing all Economy Channels not part of Starter.  Called Help line tech support...  They said to fix I would have to pay more for the "Essential" service and all would be fixed.   That's not right!  This is a major problem...  FYI, I ran channel scan and no change.

If I got the HD receiver (Cisco Explorer 4742HDC) would that work with Economy pkg?

Anyone know the number of DISH?

The "mini-box" only receives "Starter" and "Essential" channels. The 4742HDC (among others) will get all of the subscribed tiers.

Hi Ron,

Cox TV Economy includes a variety of channels ranging across video service levels, as well as access to PPV and a handful of networks within the On DEMAND library. Since the mini box is a one-way receiver and cannot be configured for all of these services, the TV Economy channel lineup will not work correctly using a mini box. Do you have a Cox Advanced TV receiver? Is it receiving all of the channels in the TV Economy lineup?

If you want to receive the full TV Economy lineup on each TV, each TV needs to be connected to a Cox Advanced TV receiver or CableCARD. TVs connected to a mini box will only receive channels assigned to the Starter lineup. A Cox Cisco Explorer 4742HDC is an Advanced TV receiver, and will be fine.

Let me get this straight.  I have my 2nd TV plugged into the cable and receive many channels, but of course not the same as the ones that are on the TV that has the Advanced TV Receiver.  I plug the, mini box into this 2nd TV and lose a lot of stations, including, but not limited to, CNN, Lifetime, Cox Channel, ESPN, Cartoon Network, etc, etc, etc.  What happened to my channels?  I did a channel scan. If we are only going to get the ones listed under Starter, I may as well get rid of the box and go to an antenna.

It's possible that the initial mini box activation process failed. What channels are you missing on the mini box?

Becky, we did have problems trying to activate.  Went online chat with Anthony and he worked on it from his end and we got it to kick in.  It was missing many channels, such as the ones that I mentioned above--CNN (8), Lifetime (9), Cox Channel (11), ESPN (12), FX (16), etc, etc, etc.  We got all of the missing channels with direct cable hook-up but lost them with box installation.  I followed the instructions and ran a channel scan.  Nothing changed.  So far, the main TV, with the full size converter box receives everything that I am paying for.  We are now only picking up the TV Starter channels on the Mini Box.

Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this for you! What happens when you try to change the channel on the mini box to channel 8, CNN, or ESPN on channel 12? Do you get an error? Are the missing channels displayed in the on-screen Guide? Is the mini box connected to the TV via an HDMI cable or a coax cable?

Becky, if we try to select channels 7,8,9,12, etc it bypasses those channels and moves to the next available one.  No messages, just skips them.  The channels do not show up on the TV online guide on the remote.  We got the TV to operate last night via HDMI cable.  I have unplugged everything and started over, but same results.  I also tried it using the coax cable--same.  I surfed the stations, using the paper channel guide as a guide and verified it all along with the TV online guide.  The only stations that we are getting, with the exception of 123 and a lot of music stations, are the ones listed under TV Starter.  I may move it to another TV to see what happens.

A channel scan might help.  1.  Press Cox Menu on the remote.  2.  Highlight Customer Support and press Select.  3.  Highlight Technical Support then press Select.    4.  Highlight Channel Scan and press Select.  5.  Press Select again to start the scan.

Chris, as mentioned in one of my previous messages, I have run a channel scan and nothing different happens.  Just ran another one to be sure---same, nothing different.

I found an issue on the back-end that may have been affecting your channel lineup. I know you've run multiple channel scans, but please humor me and run one more channel scan now. Please let me know if this brings in the missing channels!
