mini box not receiving all channels
I just installed the mini box on one of my televisions. The other tv has a tivo with a mcard.
I called 2 times because I was not receiving any channels between 25 and 63.
They stated that the plan I currently have does not get any channels between 25 and 63.
According to this link that I clicked on out of my account "VIEW MY TV PACKAGE" button.
https://www.cox.com/residential/tv/channel-lineup.html?pkg=CABLE_PACKAGE_ECONOMY
I should get several channels between 25 and 63.
Here is an excerpt from my account.
Cox TV Economy
Access to On DEMAND shows and movies
- 155+ channels, including local and national favorites like ABC, NBC and FOX
- HD programming with an HDTV and an HD receive
- Optional Whole Home DVR to record 6 shows at once and store up to 1,000 shows

Cox mini boxes are to replace CATV, not advanced cable boxes or cable cards. Because of that they get everything in the Starter and Essential package so all you would get on the mini box is Starter.

Tecknowhelp is correct in that your mini should be getting the Starter channels. The mini's do not receive the TV Economy Package. Available packages are Starter and Essential.
Thank you,

So the mini boxes are indeed capable of receiving the channels that I am missing from my economy package (25-63) but the economy package is blocked from these channels on the mini box? Doesnt make sense.
If I upgrade to essential would I be able to receive these missing channels on the mini box? Its a shame, before "all digital" I received all of these channels.

The problem is that TV Economy includes some of the Essential channels but not all of them. The mini-box can do the Essential channels but it can only do them on an all or nothing basis. This is why prior to the transition to all digital a technician would come out and block them on the TVs not using a digital receiver however in many cases this did not occur which may explain the experience you're having. Upgrading to a package that includes TV Essential would restore access.

Thanks for the explanation, ChrisL. So, the minibox doesn't receive/block individual channels, it does all or nothing on a package. It can't do a subset of Essential. I previously assumed it would receive a user's channel profile from the network and display any subscribed channel it could receive (starter or essential) thereby giving the economy user the subset of essential to which they subscribe .... wrong assumption Thanks again, I may have missed it but this is the first time I've seen the all or nothing function of the minibox stated.

No problem, I wonder if that issue wasn't completely understood with this transition to all digital. Even with direct to set this issue was present with TV Economy subscribers. Since direct to set TVs can't selectively receive the Economy channels that art part of the TV Essential package (the all or nothing problem again) a technician was supposed to come out and trap the Essential package so those channels could not be viewed on the TVs without the digital receiver. The mini-box mirrors this model exactly.

Thanks Chris, I subscribe to advanced so it didn't effect me directly, I get what I expect on the minibox. But, I didn't realize, from the All Digital description or previous posts here, how it effects Economy subscribers. Guess I just gave the minibox credit for being smarter than is really is.

Indeed the mini-box was designed to be a simple low cost identical replacement for the direct to set services that were lost in the transition to all digital. That being the case they have no two-way capability so they can't do things like order PPV/OnDemand, switched digital video, or be remotely monitored like we do the traditional boxes. Essentially they support a simple on/off functionality for the Starter and Essential packages.

Thanks for the explanation.
Sounds like they need to push a software update to the mini box to allow for more than just 2 package capability.
I understand the all or nothing theory but how much harder would it have been to add 3 packages vice 2.
Someone didnt properly plan for this "All digital" move when having these boxes manufactured or flashed.
Thanks again.

Why were we not told about this issue with the mini box?

Because the TV Economy package cannot be received with a mini box, you may consider a standard receiver, cable card, HD receiver, or DVR receiver for an additional cost.
