Mini Box & Economy Package
I am wanting to replace two bedroom cable boxes with the cox mini boxes. We currently have the economy package and am trying to figure out if the mini boxes will receive all of the channels in this package. I have chatted with cox customer service and they don't seem to have all of the info on the mini boxes and provide some conflicting information. I am here in Surprise, AZ if that matters. Anyone have experience with the mini box and the economy bundle?
On one hand I have read the mini box can only get starter and essential. On the other hand I have also read that it can get all the channels except Advanced TV or Premium channels.
Some clarification on this would be helpful and if the mini doesn't get the economy tv channels, what is different about these channels that prevents them from being received by the mini box.
Thanks for any help or insight!
Darin

At least here in CT, the economy pkg is a subset of the essential pkg with the addition of the music choice channels. My minibox gets all the essential channels (all below 100), the 8xx channels and the music choice (9xx) channels. I have the Sports & Info digital pkg and it doesn't get those. If there are any channels, other than music, on the economy but not essential you want me to test, please let me knonw.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I sent in an email to cox as well and they just confirmed that we will get all the channels with the mini box which is great. The cable boxes are really large and don't go well in a bedroom which will be nice. Thanks again.
And, in the end, don't rely on chat for anything reliable.
Thanks again!

You are correct, Darin, the size of the mini box is nice for the bedroom. My only objection is the need for two remotes. I use the timer to shut off the tv at night. The mini box remote works the tv power, volume and mute but nothing else. I still need the tv remote to set the timer but I can't change channels with it.

Holden77,
That is a bummer and surprising. I wood assume it is based on the channel and not the package. I went down to the cox store and was told they aren't available in Arizona until around October. Anyone in Arizona get a mini box yet?

Miniboxes are only available in CT and RI at this time, therefore no one in AZ will have access to them yet.

Yes, you are right, Tulsa is our newest roll-out but no one has them in AZ yet.

Cox Arizona has many of the Essential TV channels using Switched Digital Video (both SD and HD channels) and they are about to change most all the SD Essential TV channels to Switched Digital Video.
Switched Digital Video requires an two-way device and Advanced TV.
The new Mini box does not support any channels that use Switched Digital Video, so unless Cox Arizona changes them all back to Linear channels, the Mini will receive only the Starter TV Pak.
The Following Starter and Essential Channels are already Switched Digital Video

Bryan,
Please pass along your source that states that the mini-box will not get SDV channels. I cannot locate.
Thanks.

OK. His one sentence statement. I won't say he's wrong, but I was looking more in the way of a technical paper. I see he's under the impression that everything will change when "all digital" hits Zonie Land. Either "all-digital" is further away than they lead us to believe, or they're really starved for bandwidth.
