McAfee installation
Having issues with this install. I am getting a window with 2 radio buttons (not functional) that say label. The download site already says that the product has been installed, which it has not. My free subscription pre-installed on the new computer has expired, and I need to install the Cox version.

First step to installing any antivirus is first uninstalling the old one. Have you tried that?

That is not working. I select the program from the list through control panel..... but once the program is selected, you cannot choose to uninstall. The remove button is grayed out.

I got the old one uninstalled, had to use several re\boots. But the same window with label still shows when trying the new install.

If you had a simular problem uninstall the old Mcafee as you did installing the new Mcafee, then I think the two issues are related. Try running the Mcafee removal tool.
::Edit:: DId some digging and found some people having a simular problem with Mcafee, and not even the Cox version. According to this Mcafee support article, the installer depends on Internet Explorer for the windows/prompts so problems with the browser can cause what you experienced to happen.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe someone else here will have another idea. Everything I am finding points to a PC issue.

I did the removal thing again, and same issue with IE. Pretty soon I'll be out of subscriptions to download.
Thanks for the help though.

Kind of off point, but would you consider a different free Anti-virus? Avast and AVG are two popular ones, and both have free versions. It would have the added benefit of not being dependant on the ISP for protection. Otherwise you have to worry about changing Anti-virus if you change ISP or sometimes even packages. Just thought I would throw the idea out there.

At this point that is probably the best bet. No protection at this time is a vulnerable situation. Ive heard of AVG.
Incidentally, I tried the install by by right clicking and running as administrator to no avail.

Hi BBinks,
I'm sorry this has caused such a big headache! Before we proceed, let me make sure I am caught up. At this point, when you go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, nothing in the list is related to McAfee, correct?
Have you activated the Cox Security Suite Powered by McAfee product license yet? If not, or if you're not sure, the steps are described in the article found HERE.
Go to http://www.cox.com/css and log in with your Primary User ID. If you see a Manage button instead of Activate Now, it means you have previously activated or installed this software. Which button do you see?
Proceed with the steps to install the software outlined in the article. The installation should proceed smoothly on its own, but the rest of the steps are outlined in the article found HERE.
Please let me know at what point you get stuck or get the picture that you previously posted. We'll get to the bottom of this!

Yes. This install is for a new computer, which had a trial of McAfee. Which was uninstalled after the trial.
Manage for Cox security, I had the Cox version on my old computer. And Activate for the Family.
I get to the download / serial number screen, then run the installer. The next screen is something to the effect of we are gathering information for your system ( it has a little spinning wheel thing).
After that it goes to the Label/Label graphic I have show.
The option for recommended or custom install does not come up.
I have tried the install in safe mode as well.
