Major Internet Speed decrease!!! Help!!!

These past couple of weeks I have noticed that my internet speed on all of my computers were decreased from 25 mbps to 2 mbps. I checked all the cables/wires that were connected to the modem and the router, but there was no problems with them. The router and modem are only a year old and I doubt that they are broken. I have not contacted Cox about this problem yet.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Can you test without the router and see if you get the same results?  Also which cable modem do you have and have you tested your speeds by logging into our Cox page and running the provided speed test tool?

Same exact problem for me... All I have is the internet, because thats all I wanted. I even got the 25MB download/5MB upload package, so it would be extra fast. now its **... its the only thing I want.. working internet... WTF.

I'm having issues as well.  Just ran the test (Cox) and the first time I ran it, I got 7 mbps download and 3 for upload.  A minute later and I got:

Thu Jan 3 8:35 PM Yes 5 Mbps 3 Mbps 49 millisec

I did get a new router a few weeks ago but I ran tests before and after and I routinely was getting 16+ upload (I only started checking because I supposedly was upgraded for a promo and I haven't noticed any difference--need to call and ask about said promo because the speeds haven't been any higher than what my current package is).

Your upload speeds are more consistent with the current plan you're on although download could probably be better.  If you don't see any change testing download speeds without the router it may be beneficial to look into upgrading the eMTA modem with a 3.0 model.  There would be no charge for that so long as you maintain phone service with us.

I am in Casa Grande, AZ on the Premier Tier on a DOCSIS 3 modem and up until about 3 weeks ago was consistently in the 22-25Mbps range sustained, excepting early evening when it would drop into the 16-19 range for an hour or so. Now I'm sitting at 12-16Mbps sustained regardless of time of day. My upload is at 1Mbps all the time now and it was always in the 5-6Mbps range.

This wasn't a gradual slowdown, this was sudden one as if there was a hardware change or a change in routing. I do also notice that tracerouting is now showing a LOT less hops inside of Cox's network as if MPLS instituted and therefor hiding the true hop count. Family and friends on the same tier as I am, but closer to Phoenix (ie., further along the routing path all of my traffic has to go as I believe Casa Grande is spoked off of Chandler still) are reporting the normal speeds I used to get when using the Cox speed test as well as Speedtest.net.

Modem Info:
Model Name: SB6120
Vendor Name: Motorola
Firmware Name: SB612X-1.0.5.1-SCM00-NOSH
Boot Version: PSPU-Boot 1.0.0.4m1
Hardware Version: 3.0

Tested speeds without the router attached, clearing browser cache and restarting browser:
14Mbps down, 1Mbps up

Tested speeds with the router attach, clear the browser cache and restarting:
Absolutely no change since a properly working router doesn't affect this at all.

Running a second test immediately after the first puts the results right where they should be in the 25-32Mbps range down, albeit at the same 1Mbps up, but since that's using cached data, it isn't a valid test.

I live in Omaha, NE and I am experiencing the exact same problem described by others on this post. I am getting very erratic connection speeds and it affects all the devices in my house. My modem is a Motorola SBG6580 and is only two months old. I had been getting good speeds until a couple of weeks ago and now it will fluctuate between nearly full speed downloads to nothing. It occurs at random times of day, although evenings seem a little worse. I have run ping tests and I am getting significant packet loss from somewhere beyond my modem. Hopefully, if enough people post this problem it will get the attention of someone at Cox that can resolve the issue.

Still no change in service speed. Getting half of what I should be. I do notice that I'm Upstream Bonding now and not sure when that started as the modem is out of sight unless I need to have access. I am showing 4 channels bonded downstream and 3 bonded upstream.

All Downstream channels are at 37dB SNR @ 0dBmV, all Upstream channels are 38-42dBmV according to the modem's Signal page.

It may be necessary at this point to arrange for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.

I'm from Ft. Smith, AR

The last few days I've experienced major drop in upload speed. normally it has always ran around 5 Mbps but now it's only averaging 0.5 Mbps or less. I do alot of gaming on consoles which rely on at least a 2 Mbps upload. The download is fluctuating more than usual. It normally ran close to 20Mbps but now dropping down to 3 or 4 Mbps. I'm using a DPC2100R2 Modem and a Netgear N600 wireless dual band router model: WNDR3400v2. I've never had any issues like this until the last few days. seems like it's getting worse. my neighbor however is experiencing the same drop in upload speeds as well. They also have a cox service, but using a different modem/router. Sounds like it would be a problem on the cable lines. I can't seem to get anyone out to check the lines. Tech support doesn't seem to want to listen. I've had speed tests as low as 3Mbps download and 0.01Mbps upload ( Yes 0.01 not a typo) and they tell me my connection is fine.

This problem isn't your modem or your wiring, it's a problem in Cox's choice of routing, it was changed to Cogentco after the first of the year and they have a history of high latency and poor service since 2005. I mostly use internet to play world of warcraft online. I noticed threads in their forums complaining about high latency and saw 90% of the people posting had Cox internet and lived around the Phoenix area. Then I noticed it was affecting people playing other online games, and finally see that people all over are being affected. And Cox would rather blame your equipment than be honest and admit the problem lies within their routing services. Don't be fooled by their corporate BS, demand the service you're paying alot for. Respond to that, Chris.
