Limiting WiFi data usage

Is there an easy way to change wifi password and/or keep certain household devices from accessing using wifi data. If a child is given wifi password on a device once, will it always be automatically connected when device is used again? I want to limit a particular device to a couple hours here and there, and not allow it to be used for hours on end.

Unfortunately most routers weren't designed to have wifi access control this robust.  You may be able to try using the parental control features of our McAfee we provide to help accomplish some of this.

Chris, I was under the impression the McAfee only effects the computer it is running on.  Does it set parental controls in the router too?  Blocking assess at the router or modem is the only way to keep other devices from accessing the net.

Parent56, all routers have some kind of access control.  At the very minimum, you should be able to set a time of day schedule, that is your children's devices can only access the network from 2:30 to 4:30 PM for example.  What router are you using?  Maybe we can help finding parent control capabilities and detail instructions for it.

You can sign on the the router's web interface and change the WiFi password but once you give them the new password they can connect at will.

Yes, installing McAfee works at the device it's installed on only.  it's an alternative although not perfect for situations where the router doesn't provide a similar functionality.
