LG Smart tv not connecting to internet

Just got an LG smart tv yesterday and set it up. When I tried to connect to my internet network, it does show my address and allows me to enter my password but it then says, Network not connected. I spoke with cox yesterday three times via chat but was unable to resolve. one person said I needed to contact LG, the next one was looking something up for me and we got disconnected and was unable to resume chat with her and the last one said my modem was not connected. I can use my laptop fine. Thanks for any direction ...
