Last-call return {or call return}

I began a full bundle with Cox a few weeks ago and ever since I have not been able to utilize my call return option i.e., the ability to click one  button on my phone and call the last person that has called me. I am using an old Uniden portable answering machine phone and do not wish to use Cox voicemail. Does anyone know if I can get back this functionality?

What is the "one button" programmed to dial? Is it a redial? Does it dial a star function? *69 calls the last person who called you. Does not always work depend if the caller blocked or hid their caller ID.

This  button is in the center of the phone. When I click it on the left it give me my phone book. When I click it on top the sound of the ringer increases, When I click it on the bottom the sound of the ringer decreases. When I click it on the right it shows the last number that called me. {If I wished to I could then click the same button on the bottom and it would show me the list of people {assuming they are not blocked calls}}.

So what I do is click the button the right that shows who most recently called and then I click "call" and in the past this function would work. Now it does not. It is not a star function and you are correct inasmuch as it is not designed to work with a blocked number.

Thank you for your interest.

You will have to program your phone to dial *69 with one push of a button.  Otherwise you have to dial *69 and listen while the "voice" tells you that phone number.  It waits for you to respond that you do want to return that call.  If the line is busy or there's no answer, you hang up and the phone will keep trying for 30 minutes.

Does Cox charge for this? Before I just had to click a button. I have not used *69 in probably 20 years. My larger question is why would changing providers delete a phone function that I have enjoyed for years?

was it a function of your old provider or the phone itself?  not all providers have the same features or maybe a different button press

It was a standard feature, just like redial.

Hi Doug,

If this was a standard feature on your phone, switching to Cox shouldn't have affected the one-button Call Return. Is it possible that this is a programmable feature on your phone, and that it simply needs to be reprogrammed?

Call Return is included in the Premier Telephone Feature Package. If you subscribe to the Essential Feature Package, there is a per-use price of $1.99 to use Call Return. Do you know what package you have?

Hi Becky, and thank you for getting back to me. I just got off the phone with Craig of Cox Tier 2 Support. He confirmed that this is not a programmable feature on my phone. I currently have Premiere, which does support call ID {which I do have]. Craig went back into my records and when I do try to use call return the total number is not dialed i.e. 310-310-1; only 7 digits. My reference number is ESR1995439. He said he would call me back by the end of the week. Curiouser and curiouser.

I was told by Craig in Tier 2 that they would call me by the end of the week. They did not. I was transferred twice and disconnected each time. I just spoke to Tamara and she wrote up a new ticket number and said I would e called by Wednesday.

Update: After I sent the above message I received a phone message from Cox. At 9:20 p.m someone left me a message apologizing for not calling back re the call return issue and that someone would contact me later. They did not leave a phone number or an extension.

Hi Doug, Was this call back in reference to your phone feature concern regarding the ESR000001995439 ticket, or an internet connection concern you had previously?

This Sunday morning I received a call from Ron of Cox out of Phoenix. He confirmed that this issue concerns that ESR you mentioned. As a matter of fact he is going to send a man out tomorrow morning to check into the problem. I cannot ask for more than that.

This problem is resolved. Cox rep Robert came over and solved the issue. I wish I could give you a better explanation of how he did it. I believe he indicated that it had something to do with GPS and/or something to do with dialing "1" first. In any rate, Robert changed something on the phone. Call return now works as normal if I am dialing back someone from my area code. If I wish to call back someone from out of my area code i must first press "*" than "talk". Not a perfect fix, but certainly manageable. Thanks to Ron of Phoenix and Robert of Palos Verdes. You solved my problem
