IR remote won't do all of the functions for the contour box

I just upgraded to the contour box and my Genesis MX900 ir remote won't work well with it.  Is there a remote that works with all the functions of the cox remote?  The cox remote won't work with the surround system I have and the genesis mx 900 doesn't fully work with the contour...thank

Hi Dan757x,

Have you tried to program the Contour remote to work with your sound system? What is the brand and model number of your sound system? Perhaps we can help locate the right programming code.

I use a Harmony 650, it controls
- Cisco 8742HDC Contour Record 2 DVR
- Pioneer SC-1522 AVR
- Apple TV
- Sony BDP-BX510 blu-ray
- Sharp 60LE832U TV
- Cox Evolution minibox

I haven't found a function on any of those devices the Harmony won't control.  I don't know much about your MX900 but Harmony had an extensive database of supported devices and provides "one button" functions like "Watch TV".

Good Morning Becky and thanks for the response.  I have not and the audio guy that comes out and does my stuff says it won't do the sound system, thus the need for the genesis mx900.  However, It makes sense that the Contour remote would do it all.  I have an LG TV, an LG DVD and a Marantz receiver for the surround sound and apparently it's driven through it.  Marantz nr1501.  Thanks!!

Thanks Allen so very much.  If I can't figure out how to link this expensive Genesis mx900 up...I'll certainly take your advice.  The MX900 has a huge drawback that I didn't know about.  Everything has to be done by an audio tech.  I'm aware...but not very savvy for programming.  I looked at the harmony 650 last night online and appreciate your input.

Sorry I can't help you with your MX900, I did find you need a piece of software called MX900-Editor, do you have a copy of it?

I don't know of any Cox supplied remote that will control more than on/off and volume without multiple button presses.  I have been using a universal remote since I started with home theater. I need a simple remote to use, my wife wants one button, that's it.  She's loves the home theater but doesn't want any technical complication using it   Haven't even tried the 8820 Cox provided with the Contour box.  I had the Harmony working with my Cox Passport DVR and just changed it to control a Contour device.  Programming is simple, all done via the MyHarmony website then downloaded to the remote via USB.  One additional benefit, the supported device database is online with MyHarmony.  We were one of the first markets to get the minibox (last March) ... Harmony had the control codes online within less than a month after I got the box.

Hi dan757x,

It sounds like you're experimenting with different Universal Remotes. Here is a link to our website if you were interested in trying these codes to see if they meet your needs, or even work. Here is a link to our website with different Cox remotes.

http://www.cox.com/residential/support/tv/article.cox?articleId=565a9f10-69b9-11df-5fca-000000000000

The codes below are functional with our Cox Universal URC-8820-Moto remote codes for the devices you've listed. I'm assuming you are working with the above remote, and these are the codes for the mentioned manufacturers.

Marantz sound systems include: 1189, 1269, 0189, 1089, 1289, 2114

LG DVD: 0741, 1602, 0869, 2135

LG TV: 1423, 2358, 2424, 2834, 0178, 0017, 1265, 3397

At times, these codes may only allow for powering on and changing volume, and inputs, and some simple functions on the devices.
