iPhone 6 won't send email - can't verify SMTP server

For some reason, my phone won't send email - and it seems to be because it can't verify the SMTP server. My username and password are correct and I'm using SSL with port 465. I've turned the phone off and on, reset network settings, double-checked wifi and LTE settings and I even tried deleting the account and setting it up from scratch - despite all that, it will receive email but won't send. Thoughts?

Update - doesn't work on an iPhone5 either ... some kind of disconnect between operating system and SMTP. Any available guidance would be appreciated.

Are you able to log in and access your email at http://webmail.cox.net? Are you able to receive mail on either of your iPhones?

Hate to Hijack a thread, but there is a iPhone having the exact same issue as this one, started last night.  Nothing has been changed on the phone. Able to access email using the webmail interface using the same account information.

Yes - webmail works and I can receive mail on both phones. Outgoing mail doesn't work - phone either says username or password is incorrect (it isn't) or says the SMTP server has timed out.

UPDATE: I think I've fixed it ... looks like the phone had managed to mangle the password for SMTP. Updated, restarted and now it's working. Thanks! I also updated the SMTP port to 587 on the iPhone 6, which helped ... though 465 works better on the 5.

Yesterday at approximately 9:30 am PST my primary email account stopped working through our two iPhones, one iPAD and one laptop. No change to the settings for 3 years on the iPAD, 2 years on the iPhone 6+, 1 year on the iPhone 6 and 7 months on the laptop. Secondary cox email accounts work without a problem. I had the primary email shared among all the devices and the calendar was shared. I've deleted the email account from my 6 but it keeps coming up with the same error you are receiving. I can log into Webmail without a problem so please don't tell me to reset my password. I logged into Live.com and Outlook.com says it can no longer retrieve message from my primary Cox account. Cox or Microsoft changed something yesterday that wiped out my email. I had the email setup using EAS (Exchange) and m.hotmail.com as the server. Now none of the 4 devices or Outlook.com can access the primary email account. Tier 1 passed me to Jeremiah in Tier 2 but he hadn't heard of any issues. I tried changing to pop email (pop.cox.net or pop.west.cox.net or pop.east.cox.net or imap.cox.net) and IMAP mail setting but I keep getting the same error. Won't work with my Blackberry either.

I'm having the same issues with 2 samsung devices and windows 10 email.   none will connect.  Started last week.  I can log onto webmail with no issues, so the acct is ok.
