IP Address does not Change

I have Dynamic IP which means I should be able to get a different IP Address if I reset my Modem. However, I have reset the modem many times, unplugged it for many hours and disconnected it from the Coax cable, but I get the same IP Address. What do I have to do to get different IP Addresses?

Resetting the modem only resets the DHCP process which requests a IP renewal. If the IP is still available, it won't change, it will just renew. The only way to force a IP change on the customer side is to change the MAC address of what ever you have connected to it. If it's a router, its the the MAC address of it's WAN interface, and if it's a PC, its the MAC of the NIC.

If he's disconnecting for several hours, he should get another address.  I'm just curious which address, public or private, he's checking.

Key word should. Each CMTS have different IP rotation depending on the blocks they are assigned. My point is "wait and see" isn't dependable IMO. If changing the MAC isn't possible, there is a work around where someone at Cox un-provisions the modem, locking you with a 172.x.x.x, then you re-provision it and power cycle everything and you "should" get a new IP. This is messy though, and if the person doesn't know what they are doing can lock you modem, making a ticket to Corp be needed. Only should be used as a last resort.

10 cool points it's for a poker website.
