Never mind about this question. You're right I could change it on my own :) All I needed to do was press the reset button and unplug it for awhile. I'm not sure if that's right but it worked so I'm glad haha.
Thats one way of doing it. I find it doesn't work most times, or the time you have to unplug it for differs in different areas. One sure fire way to change your IP is to change the MAC address of your router, that way the modem see's it as a new device and is forced to give it a new IP. But that doesn't work if you have a gateway modem/router device.
Changing the mac address is the first thing I wanted to do but I was unable to login to my modem. It's a Cisco modem / wireless router I received from cox a few months ago after some problems with the wired modem I was given. I used a netgear wireless router to attach to the modem and it was easier to login. [routerlogin.net]
When I first had this Cisco I was able to login and change the settings for the router's SSID and pw but now I login the Cisco router at 192.168..etc. and trying admin / admin & admin / password, I can't login with either of those combinations.
Yea, thats why I'm not a fan of gateways. I like to control my routers firmware thank you very much. Watch out with plugging a router into a gateway though. By default the gateway will hand out a 192.168.1.x IP to your netgear router and you will have NAT issues. But if you have everything working, then congrats.

Cox probably can't change your IP but you might. Could you give more info on your network setup and what your trying to do?
