IP address change help

I've had a long day, and already called Cox support.

I have a XBOX 360, that is getting DDOS attacks. However, only the xbox not the internet itself.

I called Microsoft, they confirmed it's DDOS attacks but they can't do anything. I must call Cox. I thought it was strange only the xbox was affected, I asked someone who worked in computer security why that might be. It's a XBOX flaw apparently, and hearing that I called Microsoft again to try and clarify what's going on.

I changed my IP address by unplugging and starting up my modem already at this point.

Microsoft tells me again, call cox. I changed the IP address already so I didn't know what to do, called cox to figure out.

Now I was told they had to call Microsoft, how odd they didn't tell me how to change the IP address on the xbox. They told HER the SAME THING they told me.

But then she told me they would have to go through the modem and possibly find the address then change it on the xbox. She got me to the site, got me logged in....but she didn't have the training to lead me the rest of the way.

So she gave me a number to UBEE.....

I called, and what do they tell me?

Call cox

....what do I do?

The woman that helped me already asked her manager what to do, and the manager told her to have me call UBEE...so even if I asked to talk to the manager or something they'd tell me the same thing.

Hi, is your XBOX 360 connected directly to the modem or are you on a wireless connection from a router? If you are on a WiFi connection, try connecting the XBOX directly to the modem, power off the XBOX, then unplug the modem for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on, then the XBOX. Check the IP address assigned to the XBOX now.

Something smells off. I think your getting the run around. How did Microsoft know its a DDOS? What exactly did they see?

How did you know the power cycle changed your IP? Did you confirm or were you just told this would work. Most of the time it does not. You can confirm your IP at whatismyip.com.

What is your technological comfort level? Did you set up the gateway, or are you using it as it came out of the box?

Last, which Ubee gateway do you have? DDW365 or DDW366?

To health:

I spoke to them, and I wasn't sure WHAT was going on. My internet was fine, but only the xbox had the problem.

They concluded from what I was telling them that's what was happening. My family who is out of town and busy works in computer security, it's a flaw of the system.

I thought it was strange, I hoped Microsoft could help but they're idiots. I was told changing the gamer tag would work, I payed for it and it didn't. No refund, STILL happened.

I did confirm the IP address was changed. The woman changed it again for me.

DDW365 is the number for the ubee gateway

I would say 4 years ago, I'd be savvy. But I don't know much anything about coding, yesturday I think the woman helped me set a gateway, halfway through the site to change it she suddenly said she couldn't assist me and to call Ubee who then told me to call Cox.

What had happened, was while playing online with other players, one was being a sore loser. Threatened to hack, and sure enough he did, I first spoke to microsoft, they said it was DDOS attacks on the system, but they can't do anything only cox can.

I still have it in the box itself, I'm not sure if the gateway the woman helped me get to if I can even get to it anymore.

I just want to change an ip address on an XBOX how hard can it be, for one person, ANYONE to simply tell me how to change it!

It was determined cox would have to go through the modem, look at everything and find the information about the xbo to change it.

But....I know who did it! I have their gamer tag, I even have personal information when I looked them up. I know it's this person, but Microsoft refuses to take action. I just want it to stop.

I'm a sensible person, it shouldn't take this long or be this STUPID that I have to walk around in the dark, passed on from caller to caller not wanting to deal with me.

I payed money to try and fix this already what more do I have to do?

to Mitch

THe xbox is connected to the internet through the ethernet cable, but when I changed the IP adress I know it changed. But...it didn't affect the xbox.

How do I check the IP address assigned to the xbox?

I've changed IP, gammer tag, this hacker is persistant. All over a game he lost and was being a sore loser. But his threat then all it happening, I know it was him but Microsoft refuses to take any action.

You might be better off trading the gateway for a modem and router. Not only would this change your IP, but it would allow you to change your WAN MAC address to change your IP at any time should this happen again. I don't know of any way to do that with your gateway.

"But....I know who did it! I have their gamer tag, I even have personal information when I looked them up. I know it's this person, but Microsoft refuses to take action. I just want it to stop. "

Really....are you able to definitively prove that? Because if so, last I knew DDOS'ing someone is against the law. If you can prove it then call the police. Do some research on how to report cyber crime.
