Internet Speed
Hi - we are winter visitors in Phoenix. Our internet speed here in Phoenix is really, really slow and the strength and speed seems to slow down even in the evening hours. We do have a Linksys WiFi router hooked up so I am trying to determine where the problem is.
Our home in Seattle is 3100 square feet and our Linksys Router covers the whole home, but here in Phoenix our home is 1300 square feet and I would estimate that there is good internet strength and speed in only about 750 square feet of the house. The last speed test that I did showed that the download speed is 23 Mbps and the Upload speed is 7 Mbps. Any recommendations for me on this? Is there a recommended WiFi router for Cox cable. In Seattle we have Comcast - seem to be paying more here for less services.
Thanks, Cathy Muth

What model modem and router do you have? Most likely cause are other networks around you. I assume where you previously lived it was less populated? But a lot of time settings in the router can be adjusted for that.

Are you on a similar broadband speed in Phoenix as your home in Seattle?
what modem and router and how old are they?
can you do a speed test. Do results match what you are signed up for?
i am frequently no happy with Cox equipment, so I use compatable, but my own equipment.
I bought a motorola modem and an Apple AirPort Extreme base station. I pay for 100mbps service and have speeds on each device from 62mbps to 300 MBps.

Try using inSSIDer and look at the networks around you. If you get lost, post a picture of the graph and I can translate. Once you find the most open channel, switch to that channel from the routers 192.168.0.1 website. Wireless > Basic Wireless > Manual > Channel > Save settings. Will look like this. Or for a simple break down of how to use inSSIDer, click here.
