Internet Price INCREASE!
I just received my latest billing statement from Cox (I live in Roanoke, Va.) and my internet services seem to have increased by $20/month?? Is this correct? Why the huge hike in prices? I, unfortunately, rent a condo with a resident regulations committee who will not allow the installation of satellite dishes, most likely for aesthetic reasons. If this were not the case, I would be cancelling my service with Cox. Existing customers should not be gouged on fees like this. I rarely use my internet - rather, I have it only so that my terminally-ill husband can get NetFlix. TV is his only luxury - its such a shame that the prices are increased in this manner without warning and by so much!

Have you tried to call the retentions dept? Thats what I did about a year ago, I have some nice discounts now as I have been a long time customer. Just like the situation i describe below, every company has a retentions dept for current customers to get discounts but most dont know about them. Sometimes the company will require you to do something relatively simple, for example with Cox (this is a current promo in AZ, might be in your area as well) I got $10 off/month for 1 year and I just had to specify Cox as my long distance provider (use a cell phone for this so doesnt matter who does my long distance) and its renewable.
They cant say you cant use satellite, just say where the dish can and cant be. Unless its in the agreement that you signed, Cox, CenturyLink and othe providers have agreements with many complexes (apartment, condo etc) that say they will not allow the other provider to sell to the residences. As a resident you are made aware of this vendor lock in in your agreement, and agree to it by signing, though given that most dont read stuff before signing, most dont realize this until they want service from the other provider, though satellite is often not prohibited as you can just put the dish in a bucket on your porch/balcony.
