Internet Premier getting me 25-30 Mbps

I have been checking my speed on speedtest.net and consistently averaging between 25-30 Mbps and 5-6 upload speed. I have been running the tests from a wired computer.  I understand that the 50 Mbps is not guaranteed and is affected by many factors, but I would expect it would be at least a little closer to my cap and not nearly 20 Mbps off.

Doing a few google searches of the cox internet support forum I noticed some other people with similar problems to mine have had issues with their accounts that cox support was able to resolve on their end.  I am wondering if that is the same issue with my account?  If so I would appreciate it if a cox support specialist could assist me with the problem.

Could it be my modem, i currently am using a motorola SB5101N surfboard cable modem.  I would appreciate any feedback or help i can get..

Yes, its your modem. To get Premier speeds you need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. See list of models here.

Hi Christie H,

The modem you currently have would need to be upgraded to a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem.  Due to the older technology of that modem it wold not be able to achieve the 50 Mbps speeds.  That modem tops out around 25 - 27 Mbps.

Hey Derrick, so today i purchased a SB6141 modem and my speed has not changed, it's actually a bit slower than what my previous modem was running. I called Cox to have them add the modem which they did.  Now i am at a loss, not sure what to do. Any insight would be appreciated.. I have been on the Premier plan for awhile, my speeds are averaging about 27 mbps..

Are you running the speedtest directly connected to the modem, or with a router?

If direct, could be a issue with the service code on your account. Hopefullly a moderator will be able to help, but I suggest deselecting my post as answered so they know you still need help..

Tiffany is off for a few days, so I forwarded your kudos to her so she wouldn't miss them. I'm glad we got you back up to SPEED!
