Internet Connection Failing
I have Premier Internet service. My modem is a CISCO DPC3010. The router I use is an ASUS RT-N66U. Starting Tuesday October 13, 2015 at 1 am Eastern Standard Time my internet has stopped completely when connected to my router. The only way I am able to connect to the internet is by running an ethernet cord from my modem into my Macbook Pro. I usually connect to the internet by using Wifi from my router the ASUS RT-N66U. I have tried to run an ethernet cord from my Router into my Macbook Pro and it still is unable to connect to the internet. I believe there is an issue between my modem connecting to my router. I am hoping that someone will be able to check to see any of my information has been altered that would cause a miscommunication between my modem and router because there has been no problems for about 4 months.

Since your Macbook Pro connects to the internet when connected directly to the Cisco modem, the problem must be with your router. When you are connected via Ethernet from the Macbook to the router, can you sign into the router ... default IP is 192.168.1.1. That address should work unless you changed it. Default login is admin/admin. If you can get in, check to WAN (internet) setup. Make sure it's got an external IP from Cox.
One other thing, I would power down the modem, router and Macbook. Power on the modem and wait for it to fully boot. Next power on the router and wait for it to boot. Finally power on the Macbook.
Since you can get to the internet directly from the modem, it's not a Cox issue. Please let us know if the above helped and any more details, we will try to help you out.

After fully rebooting everything and going into the WAN settings I am getting an error stating DHCP connection failed.

Do you happen to have IPv6 enabled? Should be able to tell here.

AFAIK, Cox hasn't implemented native IPv6 yet for anything other than fiber. That could be your problem, try disabling IPv6 and see if that helps. The only way I can get IPv6 to work is using a 6to4 tunnel, not native.

Could you give more info on this? Only thing Cox has said is it's "automatic" which isn't exactly helpful.

Here is a Wikipedia article on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6to4
My Netgear R6700 has the following connection options for IPv6
Disabled
Auto Detect
6To4 Tunnel
Pass Through
Fixed
DHCP
PPPoE
Auto Config
6rd Tunnel
The documentation says Auto Detect will detect the type of connection in use by the isp. When I select it the router comes back with a connection type of 6to4 Tunnel and gets both a WAN and LAN IPv6 address. It does work, somewhat, I get 15/20 on ipv6-test.com. I haven't been able to get any other connection type to work.

Have you checked with ASUS to see if there have been any router firmware updates or other changes?

Hi Becky,
I have checked with ASUS and the latest firmware has been installed. I would like to mention that sometime last night the modem has somehow reconnected with the router and I am able to get back on the internet via wifi now.
Thank you and everyone else who inputed feedback to try to help me fix my problem. I may have to replace my router to prevent future problems from occurring.
