Intermittent picture cut out with new TV
We have had our Cox Contour box hooked up to our home theater system (Pioneer VSX-521 via HDMI) for a while now. The old TV has worked great.
We recently "upgraded" to new bigger TV. Now we get the occasional short picture interruption like the TV has just detected the input. Very annoying.
If we bypass the Pioneer receiver and hook the contour box straight the TV the picture interruptions do not happen.
The blu-ray player and PC still work through the receiver without any interruption in the picture.
Why is the Cox Contour box having trouble going through the receiver to this new TV?

Sounds like an HDCP handshake issue, which is really quite common. The new TV may be more sensitive to HDCP signals than the old one. First thing I would do is replace the HDMI cables, even a slightly loose connection can cause this type of problem. Make sure you are using good quality, high speed HDMI cables ... I didn't say high price, just high quality, good, inexpensive cables are available for places like monoprice. Also, how long are your cables?

+1 fore Monoprice. Used them for years.
Also try disabling HDMI-CEC if your TV has it. This is a format that uses the HDMI for the TV to talk to what ever is connected to it. These can interfere with the communication process the TV and box use to make sure the connection is secure.

I have a variety of HDMI cables ... not real sure of the age/version/speed of them. Some seem pretty cheap, but others are Monster cables I got on sale a few years back (still could be old and slow). The main one from the AVR to the TV is long ... maybe 12', since I run it through the wall to the wall mounted TV. I think it is a Audio Essentials (or such) from BestBuy. Some of them may be Amazon Basic cables, I've bought a few of their cables.
The connections seem tight, and tried re-seating them.
For the direct connect that worked (cable box direct to TV), I used an HDMI cable that came with a Cheetah wall mount I bought. The cable is 1.4 HDMI.
However, that same cable did not worked when connected between the AVR/TV... but that still left another unknown cable between the cable box and the AVR.
I actually have a 2 more of those cables to try as I bought 3 wall mounts for various TVs around the house.
Most likely 1 or more of the cables between the equipment are not just right.
I'll do some more playing around and report back what I find.

The new TV, a Vizio E70-C3, does have HDMI-CEC. If the cable "upgrade" don't fix things, I'll look into disabling CEC.
Also...
I grabbed a newer AVR, Pioneer VSX-824, since I needed to replace a very old Harmon Kardon in another room. I was going to use it in that room, but I may try it in the living room to see if it plays better with the new TV.
