internet works fine then drops out. First I must say thank you for speed upgrade works nice when working!

modem is Cisco DPC3010. now this has been going on long time techs been out a few times this year a few times last year to put it in perspective.Yesterday at about 8PM inet started acting up and then phone also went dead no dial tone and the person i was talking to got dumped and continued   getting verbal phone not working messages for about 15 min.. Also I see this modem needs a security firmware update ?

Ill show modem stats.

A bit of follow up cox was out replaced coax ends going in and out of outside phone box so far so good running stable and no drop outs so far that I have noticed .Up link running about 43.6 to 45.7 which I understand is ideal !

Thank you to the techs, hope it goes a long time. also my down load speeds on my main computer are over 100 local thanks again.

Looks like your upstream power level is spiking up to 52, which causes it to drop the other channels and get stuck/reboot. You said you lost your phone too when you would lose your internet, do you have a inside phone modem or outside one? If inside, is it in the same room as the internet phone?

Last, any splitters between the modem and the wall for the cable line?

phone stuff outside on side of house .cable runs from there to inside to a three way splitter . modem on 3.5db tap the rest on my tv stuff is on 7db tap for up stairs and main floor. what are upstream powers supposed to be realistically ?

They should be below 50, and closer to 47 is better. Its kind of like a goldilocks porridge thing where you don't want it too low, but you mostly don't want it to high. The thing is if its changing drastically like that my gut is telling me its a outside problem. But you may want to try replacing the 3 way splitter. Usually they will give you a free on at your local Cox store. Or you can buy one anywhere, just make sure its 5-1000 pass and is NOT gold.

Thank you for info. i think splitter was replaced last time tech was out..

They replaced phone box one time before because lower tv channels were going out that was at least 4 or 5 years ago.

I guess I might have to make all call to cox. I was hoping a rep would see this so as to know whats going on and not go thru the complete question machine.

thank you for posting this because I have been pulling my hair out for weeks.... I pay for the medium speed and my internnet cannot stay connected for more than 5 minutes.

After spending my ENTIRE FREAKING WEEKEND on this mess, I have figure out its COX and something they have done which limits devices (mac addresses) they internally are assigning IP addresses off your modem IP address.

Also what ever they have changed has a limit on speed to recieve information, meaning if you have one of the new recommended modems with a gigabit connection, you need to get it connected to a router to force it at 100mbps.   Or only use the connection from the modem on a single computer.   It seems when the network in your home is running at 1000mbps, the modem cannot handle the volume of request coming from multiple devices.   You can see this when you make everything connect wirelessly, but as soon as a device is connected to ethernet modem chokes and your begin the entire 15 m inute reboot cycle.

I have replaced my modem with three surboard 6141 and each on has the same problem.   anyway, the 32 device limit I found by counting the items in my home  (Roku, Tivo, IPAD, iPhone, 3 imacs, etc),    and then i ran into a blog that talks about this whole thing Cox is doing to control speed and bandwidth and doing it this way to stay out of the news.

What? That is a ton of speculating with no data. Can you quote your sources or post some data?
