When you find out the answer, please come back and tell us how you did it. On my cell phone , my name was not showing up on the other person's caller ID. It just said the name of my city and state with the number. I called the cell provider (Verizon). They transfered me to a company called Illuminate (or something like that) which had me record my voice saying i wanted to make the change. The change took place immediately. People would see my name when i called. Cox must offer something similar. Let us know what you did to make the change.
Cox is able to make most changes at their support number. Call them.

Cox is avoiding the cost to retrieve caller ID names.
When you make a call, only your number is transmitted. If the recipient has subscribed to the caller ID service, the recipient's provider will add the Calling Name. If the provider doesn't have a Calling Name associated to the number, they're supposed to retrieve the information and delivery it to your phone. That's what you're paying for.
However, to retrieve the Calling Name, Cox may have to access a third-party database, such as Illuminate (or something like that). Those database providers sometimes charge a fee for each query of their databases. To avoid the charges, Cox will report the name as "Unavailable" or as "(city), (state)" based on the phone number. We pay for the service...but Cox fabricates the information.
For example, I've hired a couple contractors for my recent heating problems: bluefrog Plumbing + Drain and Shaw Services. Whenever they call me, either from their office or mobile, their name is never on my caller ID. It displayed as either Cell Phone VA or Vienna VA. I have a call blocker and I didn't know whose calling. Is it a contractor or a nuisance call? Each company has confirmed their names are associated with all their numbers. Cox just doesn't want to retrieve it.
There probably is a solution for all this, such as the naming system for the Internet, but lobbyist are more important than us.

Yes, Cox does have such tools, or atleast they did, however most reps lack the tracking to use them. The main one they used(Targus) got bought out by Neustar, so now even less have access. Instead they switched to a proprietary tool and process which is much slower. Changing Caller ID used to be a 30 second process. Now it can take weeks. Thats what comes with "standardization". Bigger you are, slower you are. If Cox takes too long, try going direct to the source:
I have a Caller ID issue related to calls I place — can you help investigate?
As the largest independent provider of Caller Name (CNAM) services, we can definitely try. Please email checkmycallerid@neustar.biz with these details:
