How can I change the Remote's Access Code so one remote does not change the channel on all my Mini Boxes?

I have two Mini Boxes sitting right on top of each other.

One goes to my DVD Recorder and the other to my TV.

I want to watch one channel while recording another as I could before Cox scrambled all the channels and demanded with rent these crappy Chinese Mini Boxes.

Problem:

When I use the remote to change the channel on one mini box, the same remote changes the channel on both Mini Boxes! I need to change the access code on the remotes so it will only work for its box and the other remote only for its box. Cox never thought of this use case? Duh. So I am close to dropping Cox entirely unless they can solve this.

@nordattack

The access codes the boxes uses aren't changeable that I'm aware.  I once heard of somebody doing something similar by placing polarizing filters over the equipment sensors so that the remote had to be oriented a specific way to work depending on which box was to be controlled however this is something I have no first hand experience with.

Here is the easiest solution for your problem. Get a small cardboard box, adjust it to sit cleanly over the minibox, and while you are setting up your recorder, put the box over the TV minibox, and when you are ready to watch TV, put the box over the recorder's minibox and you won't disturb your recording while you are channel surfing.

Cox was actually able to handle this problem and the solution may be of help to others out there.

First off, Cox tech support was clueless, but they at least understood they were clueless and scheduled a cox installer visit.

Second, the installer they sent was clueless, but the clueless installer admitted he was clueless and called his installer manager and he came to our house and knew what to do.

He installed a new plug in remote receiver on one of the mini boxes that allows it to use a different type of remote.

Now that mini box will only respond to the new remote and the old normal mini box is unaffected by the new remote and the new remote receiver is unaffected by the old mini box remote.

The receiver is called the "Universal RF4CE Serial Adapter" and it works with the URC-3220-R Remote Control.

Now we can change the channel on one mini box and it doesn't change the channel on the other and vice versa.
