HD programming runs at 1080i

I noticed that the output from the box is at 1080i I checked the settings for a 1080p but could not find one. Does cox have any plans to update its customers to the better quality 1080p? When I watch programming from the Cox receiver it is not as clear as when I run programming out of my PC or console.

Currently the box only support 1080i because there is no 1080p content being broadcast.  All traditional TV networks are either broadcasting 720p or 1080i.  You may want to try setting the box to either auto-format which will match what the network is transmitting or 720p to see if there is any improvement.  Also note that some TVs like one of mine for example are 1080p TVs because they accept a 1080 signal however only have 720 display.  For TVs such as this selecting 1080 output will require the TV downscale the picture to fit.

I kind of thought that was the case. Thanks for the quick update. It's crappy that stations are charging us so much for programming that is not even put out in the best quality.  They wonder why more and more people are dropping cable for internet only options.

1080p was initially intended to be an in-home media format only.  The practical means to transmit a 1080p signal just isn't there yet.

If you subscribe to HBO, you can connect a Roku to your HDTV and watch HBO GO in 1080p.  Of course, that's through the Internet...but it's an "outta home" media format in full HD.
