Enhanced Webmail won't allow Backspace Key to work when using Chrome

Hi:

This problem started for me in Dec. 2013 after Google did an update.

I use Cox's Enhanced Email with the Google Chrome Web Browser.

When I try to reply to an email message, I cannot backup using the Back Space key.

In order to correct an error / typo, I must Hi-Lite and Delete the error, then retype the correct text.

Currently, I do not have this problem when using Firefox or IE8 ... but ...

about a year ago, I did have had this problem when using IE8.

How can this be fixed ?

Thank you

Hi:

I understand what you are saying.

I have the latest update to JAVA, and update it regularly as soon as I get a notice from Adobe.

A JAVA update is not the problem.

Thank you.

P.S.

I get the following error from your email Post Message and Reply to Post when I click on the button to perform spell-checking.

Yea, I have had this problem for a while. I think the problem actually has more to do with a shortcut build into Chrome where backspace is used to go back to the previous website. Something about it sensing a full screen flash application and maybe thinking its a movie. Not really sure. I have confirmed it doesn't effect Classic Webmail. Only enhanced, and only in Chrome.

Last, for record, neither the backspace or the delete key work. Pressing them causes nothing to happen. The cursor doesn't even blink or change. It doesn't matter where your typing, from the "To" field, body, or even the "Search" field on the top left. The only way to delete something while using Chrome and enhanced webmail is to highlight it, right click, and click delete.

Im using Chrome Version 32.0.1700.107 m with Flash 12,0,0,44. Windows 7 64bit.

Hi:

Here’s a more detailed description of the problem.

I emailed a detailed reply  this on Feb 11, but I received an email today (2.15.2014): the message had bounced back to me..message not provided..  I had sent the message to cox-notification@coxforums.com

More detailed description:

I am using Cox’s Enhanced Web Email.

Say that I Receive an email message and want to Reply to it…or…I Create and Send a New email message.   If make a typo, and press the Backspace key on my laptop, nothing happens…the cursor does not move.  In order to correct the typo, I must select the typed-error, press the Delete key on my laptop, then type the correct text.  This also happens the To,  CC,  BCC, Subject … fields , not just the body of the email message.

I do not have this problem with IE or Firefox.  About a year ago, I had this problem with IE.  The only way around it was to restart or reboot the laptop, then open Cox Enhanced Web email.

It eventually corrected itself.

With Chrome, this problem started after Google did an upgrade in December.

In the screen snapshot, you can see the type…and I cannot Backspace the cursor.

Screen Snapshot of Cox’s Enhanced Webmail window with problem:

Unable to BackSpace key to edit any text.

To correct text, I must Select, Delete, and Retype text.

Unfortunately this is a known issue with Chrome and some Macintosh configurations.  The alternative at this time it to either try Classic Webmail or configure a PC based email client.

Could also try a different browser, like Firefox or (if you have to) Internet Explorer.

You might try IE Tab for Chrome. Not sure if it will fix your current problem though. Worth a shot.

Ditto on this annoying "broken" backspace problem.   Neither classic nor enhanced Cox.Net email enables to backspace key to operate as expected.   This has been confirmed to be Cox.Net email in both classic and enhanced versions and exists in email only (meaning, not in other COX.NET applications.

Java has been reloaded, Chrome has been reloaded.   This is occurring for multiple users.

It's not just a Mac issue.  Same problem on Windows 7 PC's.

Yes that's correct.  I did mention this above that Windows users trying to use the Chrome browser would also see this.  The best workaround at this time is to access webmail using a different browser or try using an email client such as Windows Mail for example.
