E-mail Clients
What clients work with Cox? I had been using eM Client ... it was working perfectly ... and then stopped. I've tried all the settings suggested and nothing works. I saw a suggestion to tried Thunderbird and I did ... didn't work. Any suggestions? Web Mail works fine.

Any client capable of POP3/IMAP/SMTP should work. Haven't heard of eM but how is Thunderbird not working? I use that client myself and it works fine. What error are you getting?

I've been using eM Client (downloaded from CNET) for a while ... used it for my Cox account and also my HOTMAIL ... then it stopped working for Cox. I tried changing the settings ... everything suggested on the forum. Nothing worked but HOTMAIL still working OK. This morning I read suggestion about Thunderbird ... so I downloaded and tried it. Would not set-up the account. I uninstalled the program.
If I could get Thunderbird to work ... I'd change over to it ... but without Cox working on it. I'll try again and post exactly what it tells me.
Incoming ... pop.cox.net …. port 110
OR: Incoming ... IMAP.cox.net ... port 993
Outgoing ... smtp.cox.net ... port 587 and 465 and 25

This is what it tells me ... Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your e-mail account.

Web mail still works fine ... same user ID .... same password .... I can still get my e-mail by going to WEB MAIL. It would be nice to have it work on a client ... not a deal breaker.
I just thought I might be doing something wrong and you could point out my error.

What version of Thunderbird are you using? During set up process, after entering your email address, you have to click on 'Manually configure" or something along those lines. You should then see a screen asking for the email settings, fill them in via these instructions. After that, attempt a sync and see if you get a error. If so, post it here verbatim if possible.

Just download Thunderbird today ... should be latest. I used the settings in the article.
Error message is: Configuration could not be verified --- Is the user name or password wrong? I've included a screen print so you can see the entire "event".

Screenshot didn't work. Sounds like your username might have been effected by the worm going around hacking accounts. I think it black lists your username from using the pop/imap servers until it's changed. Try changing your password to something you have never used before. Then test it in webmail, and use that on in the settings. Also remember, if it asks for your USERNAME, it does NOT have @cox.net in it.

I've just used USERNAME ... not the entire address. I'll try changing my password ...

Changed password ... verified via e-mail .... attempted to set-up again on Thunderbird ... same answer.
Under the selection for AUTHENTICATION ... I left that at "Normal Password" .... there are other selections but I've tried them all.
Now when I open Thunderbird ... it shows my account .... with my @cox.net ....
but tells me it could not connect to the mail server ... connection refused. Not sure why it set it up when it failed to connect.??

Running out of ideas. A couple things to try
1. Create another test username and try to set up Thunderbird with that.See here for how. That would isolate it to a username issue.
2. Try from a different computer or device. That would eliminate a antivirus issue, or some kind of firewall issue.
3. See if you can ping the incoming server. WIndows + R > CMD > Ping pop.cox.net. Does that work or time out?
4. Advanced: Try telnet to the server. Windows + R > CMD > Type "telnet" and enter. Then "open pop.cox.net 110". If the command prompt doesn't recognize the telnet command, it just means you don't have it enabled.

I'll try those suggestions. Not sure I'll complete it today. I've already spent too much time on this. Thanks for all the help ... I'm sure you have others to help. I'll re-post if I have success. Someone mentioned it might be a firewall issue with my router. I'm not sure if I want to try to resolve a problem there ... sometimes you can just create another problem. At least I have internet connection and my WEB MAIL is working.

One last post ... I tried setting up an additional e-mail with a new USERID (as suggested) ... that didn't work either. I tried
ping.pop.cox.net .... it sent 4 ... failed 4 times
The last suggestion "telnet to the server" ... the instructions didn't work ... so I wasn't able to complete that test.
