DVR storage usage of high def vs digital (non-hd)

On our whole house DVR from Cox, I have found that an hour of High Def TV takes up about 1% of its capacity. Does anyone know how much capacity/space digital TV (non-high def) will use. This could either be in percentages or how the data storage between digital and high def compare. I know digital takes less but not sure of how much.

Both HD and non-HD (SD) are digital.  Per Cisco specs for the 8700 series DVR's, a 1TB drive can hold 124 hours of HD programming.  That is consistent with your 1%.  The same 1TB drive will hold 560 hours of standard definition programming.  That leads to a ratio 4.5:1.  Of course, these are specs / averages, YMMV but the ratio should be close.

Hi H20,

What model DVR are you using?

On the front it has Cisco HDTV cable Explorer 8642HDC. It is the one distributed by Cox 2-3 years ago when they came out with the Whole House DVR product in Omaha.
