DVR Box Overheating
My DVR box is overheating and displaying a message on the screen. I purchased a Laptop Computer cooling unit that fits under the box & has a fan in it. Problem solved.... partially. The fan plugs into the USB port on the cable box for power. I assumed the USB port would turn off with the box but no such luck. The fan runs 24x7. Is there a way to program the unit to turn off the USB port when powering off the cable box?

If Contour, have you tried SETTINGS -> RECEIVERS -> POWER MANAGER -> FRONT PANEL STATUS -> ON WITH RECEIVER? I've never tried, but sounds possible. Let us know.

As I read this problem description it seems to me the more prudent solution would be to fix the cause of the overheating. Do you have the box installed in a tight enclosure? I believe it's recommended to have at least 3" of space around all edges to facilitate better ventilation.

Well? Is "trinella1" a one-and-done poster? There are other solutions available if the above didn't work.

Receiver model number? You can either:
1) Buy USB fan that has an on/off switch. There are dozens.
2) Install SPST switch on one lead of your current fan.

etc.
3) Use a small AC fan plugged into the unit's rear AC outlet.
