dvd compatibility

I have an LG TV with Cox Cable service. We bought a Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player when we had a Samsung TV. With the new TV connected to cable, I can't seem to get the DVD player to work at all using its remote. Help!

Hi WJay, please describe in detail how you have everything connected from the wall to the TV (or cable box), and the DVD player.

...and confirm that the TV's input is set correctly for the wiring used to connect the Blu-ray player to the TV.
