download speed very low

Hello, I have a premier internet service. My Cox internet speed test shows very low download speeds: ~ 12 Mbps. Usually I am getting around 45-65 Mbps. The upload speed is fine.

We had an issue of a faulty cable which was fixed by a Cox technician on Friday, August 1st. Both download&upload speeds were great afterwards but today [Sunday, August 3rd] in the afternoon everything went "south". I've tried to reboot modem: Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0. Didn't help. All movies, videos are constantly buffering.

downstream power seems very good: 4.5 dBmV

downstream SNR is also fine: 40.8 dB

upstream power: 41.7 dBmV

Having same problem.  Mid-week my speed was low 60's Mbps.  Later in the week it jumped up to 110Mbps.  Now, last tested 9:30pm, my speed was reading just over 10Mbps.  Yes, thats ten Mbps.  I do speed tests quite often and was shocked at tonights results.

I also use premier internet service with an Apple Airport Extreme router.

What area are you two from? This is a country wide forum so it might just be a coincidence

OP, are your speed test wired or wireless? Also how are you testing your speed?.

Phoenix area.

Speed tests failed yesterday both wirelessly and wired. I usually do speed tests using Cox.

Have you tried bypassing the router or do you have a all-in-one gateway?  Nevermind, read your OP. Well I don't touch gateways. Maybe a Moderator can help. Sorry. No experience with that model.

Well just got a little experience helping in another thread. You can try changing the channel. See page 38-39 of the manual. TO log in its 192.168.0.1 and the user/password leave blank and click login.

You can also try inSSIDer to scan what channels people in your area are using and pick one they are not.

UPD: same low download PLUS low upload speeds as of Monday, August 4th, 6pm.

I am wondering if this is due to the fact that Cox updates its networks to handle higher speeds [as was recently promised].

What state/are do you live in? I have heard of it going live in OKC and AZ.

Phoenix.

I found that it is partially due to WiFi interference, but the speed is still fluctuating a lot even when I am wired directly to modem.

Sounds like the issue won't be solved by reboots, sounds like a call and a visit might be the ticket to finding out.

I just moved my modem from the second floor to the ground floor where we usually use Internet. The WIFi signal of course jumped straight up and speeds [via WiFi] improved to 65 Mbps download/35 Mbps upload. I made sure there are no any splitters. Here are my readings:

Downstream

Power Level: Signal to Noise Ratio:
Channel 1: 2.7 dBmV 40.8 dB
Channel 2: 2.7 dBmV 40.7 dB
Channel 3: 2.8 dBmV 40.3 dB
Channel 4: 3.0 dBmV 40.7 dB
Channel 5: 3.4 dBmV 39.5 dB
Channel 6: 3.0 dBmV 39.4 dB
Channel 7: 2.6 dBmV 38.8 dB
Channel 8: 3.0 dBmV 39.3 dB

Upstream

Power Level:
Channel 1: 40.0 dBmV
Channel 2: 39.7 dBmV
Channel 3: 42.2 dBmV
Channel 4: 42.2 dBmV

I think they look OK, don't they?
