Do not disturb, phone still rings one time
I have Do Not Disturb turned on. Every call still rings one time. Is there some other setting that's out of whack or is this a bug?

Where is the setting...on your telephone? If so, that's an issue with your telephone. Just turn your ringer off.

Do you mean the feature inside phonetools?

Yes - the setting in phone tools. It's actually a little stranger. By calling from my cell phone I am able to see that Cox intercepts the call, sends it to voice mail, the greeting begins to play...and then my phone rings one time. So cox is still sending a signal down the local line that the handset picks up.

That is weird. Check for any other forwarding (Call forward, selective call forwarding, etc) that might conflict or cause the issue.
If not, you might need to call in, or wait for a moderator, and see if they can check your number in their system/switch for any problems.

I've never had a Do Not Disturb feature in my Phone Tools. I only have Call Waiting and My Numbers.
Can a moderator not only explain why it would ring through once...but also why I don't have it?

Turning on the Do Not Disturb feature turns on Call Forward Always and sends calls directly to Voice Mail. The Call Forward Always Feature and Do Not Disturb features cannot be on at the same time. If you turn a feature on, the other will be turned off automatically. Also, Voice Mail must be turned on before you can turn the Do Not Disturb feature on. To use Do not Disturb you must be subscribed to the Premier Feature Package.
D01,
I've verified that the single ring you hear when Do Not Disturb is turned on is normal. If you'd prefer the phone not to ring you could use Selective call acceptance instead by dialing *64 from your telephone's handset.
The Cox Digital Telephone feature, Selective Call Acceptance, let's you decide which calls you will accept. To use this service, follow these steps:
Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
Press *64. On a rotary phone, dial 1164.
Listen for an announcement telling you whether the feature is currently on or off. The recorded voice will then tell you how many, if any, numbers are currently stored in your acceptance list.
Follow the voice instructions.
Press 3 to turn the feature on or off, in the event you want to accept all calls again, not just those in the selected list.
To add the last caller to your acceptance list:
Press #01#. On a rotary phone, dial 1201.
To hear the phone numbers on your list:
Press 1.
After the list is read, voice instructions will follow.
To add a number to your list:
Press #. On a rotary phone, dial 12.
Follow the voice instructions.
Note: You can store up to 30 phone numbers on your list.
To remove a number from your list:
Press *. On a rotary phone, dial 11.
Follow the voice instructions to remove any or all of those numbers.
I hope this helps.

Cox Support Forums Moderator:
Please rename this "feature" to "Only Disturb You A Little Less" because clearly "Do Not Disturb" is the wrong name and misleading. In fact the description, which says PHONE WON'T RING needs to change as well to PHONE WILL RING ONCE.
Also - I realize you probably get credit for solving this problem in whatever metric your performance is measured on, but your solution is idiotic.

The solution is only as intelligent as the system, not the user. That's the best solution your going to get, no reason to insult the moderator.
