Discontinued email address
A few months back I left the AZ service area and closed my phone and ISP contract w/Cox - in doing so, my primary email address was shut down by Cox but surprisingly my secondary account was left open and I can access it via Webmail. When I email my primary email account there is no returned message such as "No such account". Is there a way to access that account or at least have its mail transferred to either my secondary account or my current gmail address as I fear some important messages might be dangling somewhere in cyberspace?
TIA

Short answer; no.
Its possible the 2nd email address is attached to a old account, or there is a duplicate record in the email system thats allowing the 2nd user to exsist. The problem is the only way to check would be to give the email address, and have Cox correct the glitch, which would mean deleting the Cox account. If thats what you want to do, delete the account, then I would suggest giving your account specifics to one of the moderators on here.
If not, and hypothetically had access to your webmail settings, you could put up a vacation message and forward reference your new Gmail account. Then after a month, call up to get the email deleted. You could even use Gmail to Import your current Cox account via Pop before hand.
Note: If you want to always include the sender's message put a check in the box next toInclude the original message of the sender.

Setting up the account you want to move the messages to with the pop settings for pop.cox.net as the server port:110 and the user name and password for that account you want to move. Are you able to log into that primary account or do we need to reset its password?

No, I cannot log in to the primary account. I assumed that when I closed the account - due to relocation - any email contacts that I hadn't already notified of an address change would have had their email to my now closed primary account returned <no account or account closed> rather than to a black hole.
Any hope?

Hi
Thanks for your response.
No, I don't really care to keep the secondary account (it was a spam beacon) but if there was a possibility to access the primary account through it then I'd keep it for that purpose. When the account was open I could access both addresses through webmail by just logging in and out of either but not anymore.

Well to wrap this all up...I, somehow, managed to go into account settings via my secondary account and changed the password for the primary account. Then I logged into the primary account with the new password. Now I have access to both accounts through webmail.
So both accounts are still receiving email - although there was nothing valuable that I'd missed after all that.

Thats what I was going to suggest but you saved me the awkward situation of trying to give instructions on how to get around Cox security and use a feature for free. But hey, you figured it out, and its not hurting anyone, so good enough for me. Props.

Thanks for the hint
FWIW, I was informed by Cox email support that old accounts are deleted 15-30 days after closure yet sometimes the process takes between 60 and 90 days. Mine is still open after 60 plus days.

Yea, thats a tricky one. Email recovery is something even the email engineers debate about. I think most of Cox's email system is automated, so it depends alot on the automation process for that market and how your account is set up in the system. Sometimes you can delete a email, and add it back on, sometimes you can't, sometimes the email is gone if you do, sometimes it's still there. As someone who regulary deleted my spam accounts I have noticed this behavior.
