Digital converters for digital TV's, not true.
I want my basic cable TV without the mislabeled digital converter AKA frequency modulator / scrambler. Not going to pay for a converter when I don't need one. All equipment on premisis is digital, works fine with new digital airwave TV and worked fine with digital channels already available on COX service. I have 7 rooms with CATV connections. To have 7 different converters is crazy.
Also this new channel line up is useless. I have 50 music channels on a TV that has *** speakers. If I want to listen to music I use my stereo, not my TV. I do not find a use for this, nor should I have to pay for it. Where did BBC america go? (Dr. Who has disappeared.)
So far the new system has failed technically 4 times in less than 2 months requiring resetting the new mini converter and then waiting for it (about 30 minutes) to actively reset for picture/sound. Then there are intermittent quirks that say this service is not available. So far the new service is not worth the drama of dealing with it.
Please put it back the way it was. You dont fix something that isn't broken and this is what seems to have happened. If I can't find a solution to your "improvements" I am dumping your system. Fios is cheaper and at least they don't lie to us in order to add a slim margin of profit to your shareholders at the expense of your customers. I hope the class action suit that is being prepared against you reminds you that this type of behavior will be met with losses, not profit. Don't kick the golden goose that pays your salaries.

First, cable really isn't Cox's main income. The overhead for content from providers is too high and rising every day. So I wouldn't call it a golden goose, more like the cow you keep around a little bit longer to provide milk before killing it for hamburger.
Second, if you want basic TV without encryption, then your only option now is OTA. FIOS uses IPTV over MoCA. So not only do you need to use their boxes, but you have to use their gateway too, or it won't work. I know because I almost switched recently and just wanted ethernet from ONT and basic CATV from coaxial, but they said they can't. Basically if they provide CATV, they can be considered a normal broadcaster and subject to FCC rules and regulation which they are very slyly avoiding right now. IE Cable cards.
I get it, things change and it stinks. You came here mad. But you do realize we are all users like you right? And theres like a 100 threads already on this subject. If encryption is not for you, Cox is not for you. Go OTA.

By Going All Digital you help Cox to add more channels. A digital channel takes less bandwidth to get to your home than a non-digital or analog channel. Cox is one of the last providers to make this switch. We want to address any technical issues you're experiencing with the service. Are you still having trouble with the box? Are you receiving an error number? We want to help.
Thank you,

Please stop using this as the reason for the change. It is incorrect and it causes confusion. This is not a change from analog to digital. This is a change from un-encrypted to encrypted. That does not add any channels. The change to digital happened a year or two ago. Seems like even Cox may be confused over the change. No wonder the customers are too.

Sorry, but before this "Going All Digital" campaign, the "Starter" and "Essential" tiers were, in fact, mainly analog 6Mhz wide NTSC channels. They were changed from analog to digital, which allows for 10 or more SD channels in the same 6MHz. They were then encrypted, as opposed to being ITC in analog. So, YES. They were changed from analog to digital. Now digital, they were easy to encrypt, saving truck rolls and cutting down on theft.
Please don't label statements as "incorrect" when they are, in fact, correct.

Sorry no, they were simulcast in analog, but the main feed was digital. That is why on a Digital TV, you can pick up the analog and digital form of some stations. Now they are just shutting down the analog cast and using the bandwidth for the more efficient digital format.
My main point is the most recent change is about encryption. I know you know this is true. I have seen you practically scream it on this forum. Saying it's about digital is confusing people. You have seen the posts of people confused more then anyone. I think you even said the madness was driving you away from this forum. Now you flip-flop? I don't understand. I guess a Domino does have two sides.

Methinks you got that backwards. The signals were analog NTSC 6MHz wide for those with no cable box - those who connect the cable directly from the wall to the TV. Those signals consumed about 360MHz for 60 channels. Those were the signals that were eliminated. The same channels were/are also sent as 256QAM digital signals for those STBs with digital only tuners - the vast majority of Cox leased STBs. That stream consumes less than 100MHz and remains in use. If you insist on calling the smaller <100MHz feed the "main" feed, go for it.
To what "most recent change" do you refer? First came the move from analog to digital, followed quickly by encryption. There was only a week or two between the two.

cox was simulcasting the analog and digital at the same time this just shuts the analog down and encrypts the signal

I AGREE I HAVE 3 OTHER TVS AND NOW COX WANTS 9 MORE DOLLARS OUT OF ME AS IF 174 A MONTH IS NOT ENOUGH. THEY ARE JUST SCRAMBLING THE SIGNAL TO MAKE YOU RENT A MINI BOX AND PICK OUR POCKETS. HAS COX GOTTEN SO DESPERATE FOR MONEY THAT THEY HAVE TO CON US INTO RENTING A MINI BOX THAT DOESNT DO ANY MORE THAN WHAT I AM GETTING NOW ANYWAY.
