Cox Throttling Upload Speed? Not What We're Paying For!

I noticed after a week of hooking us into a 2 year contract that we are having our upload speed throttled?

The very first week we had the service, we were getting upload speeds of around 400k/b, now we're only getting anywhere from 20-100k/b.

Not exactly what we're paying for!

Very disappointed and now regret switching from ATT U-Verse!

I have never heard of Cox throttling upload, and trust me, I use it.

Not to say there isn't something effecting your upload throughput. Can you post some of your data? A tracert to the source? Details of client or program being used? Etc. Or was this just a rant?

Hi, I was very interested to read your post.  I have to say, I would be surprised if Cox were throttling your upload speed as you suggest.  I think as the other writer suggests, it is more than likely something else is affecting your upload speed.

Your post interests me for more than one reason.  I use Cox Ultimate and they state I should get a download speed of 150mbps and around 20mbps upload.  I have had extensive communications with Cox because whilst a snap shot of the line using a speed test generally confirms these speeds, the reality is that when you actively load the line, you get around 60mbps.  So convinced was I that Cox are actually doing what is known as "shaping" on the line I ran several pieces of software to ascertain if they were.  All three pieces of software (Glasnost, Shaper Porbe and MLAB) all confirmed that Cox are shaping the line contrary to Federal Law.  I would be interested to find out if anyone else is getting the same results.

Also, to jwindell, if you are having those kind of continuous problems, check your modem logs at http://192.168.100.1 and look for a lot of T3 timeouts and sync failures. You should also post screen shots of your upstream and downstream bonded channels sections, from the Connect section (assuming you're using a Motorola modem). Your issues don't necessarily sound like any throttling, they sound like issues on your connection, and that's where to start.

You can contact customer service, keep a record of all your communications with Cox, what's said, names of techs, names of field techs and what they say, and any other pertinent information when you talk to them. You may need them if this becomes an ongoing issue and they don't resolve it for you.
