Cox Security Suite

I have multiple computers. Two are Windows 7, and one is Windows XP. I had Cox Security Suite (McAfee) installed and working on the XP computer, but that computer crashed and I have replaced it with a Dell Desktop running Windows XP. It has no internet security software presently installed, and I have had problems trying to download and install Cox Security Suite from Cox. One problem is that it keeps trying to block www.cox.net because of a certificate issue, and then once past that (I tell it to go ahead to the web site) it never seems to finish. Does Cox still work with Windows XP?

Windows XP support did indeed end in April 2014.  That being the case McAfee provided by Cox is no longer available for installation.  You may however still be able to find a security product from another vendor provided they have chosen to continue offering a solution for Windows XP.  I suspect the certificate issues you're seeing however may be the result of a clock that is incorrectly set or by not having the most current updates Microsoft has made available.  When checking the clock settings it is important to make sure that both the time and timezone are correct as how certificates use UTC or GMT time to verify expiration dates.

You probably don't want something as hefty and heavy handed as Mcafee running on a XP machine anyway. Avast has a small memory footprint and is free. Microsoft Security Essentials is also free and light, but has a nag screen to warn you about the end of support for XP.
