Cox offers internet for low income families, but if you are already a customer, you don't qualify!???

I have been a loyal Cox customer for several years. I received an email from my son's school today saying that Cox is offering "Connect2Compete", which is an offer for low income families to receive internet services for $9.95 + tax per month. There are several ways you can qualify for this, one is if your child receives free lunch. My complaint is that I am low income and my son does receive free lunch, but yet I don't qualify because you already locked me in for the $$ you are already taking from me. I mean, I can understand it from a business point of view....you are there to make money, but why exclude people who truly could use the discount? I don't receive any state assistance. No food stamps, no cash. C'mon Cox. Give me a break!!

Currently I am charged a "locked in price" at $65.99. If you were to give me the $9.95, I could save $56.04 a month and put it towards oil to heat our home, or food to put on the table.

Unfortunately this offer is only available to new low income subscribers.  More information on eligibility requirements can be found by visiting http://everyoneon.org/about/c2c/

Can you get Cox under your husband/wife's name for the connect2compete service? That's what I would try. I do understand why Cox won't do it but if you legitimately are in need, you have to look for loopholes anywhere you can! Good luck.

Hypothetically, if someone canceled their services, and somehow got out of the ETF, could new service be installed at that address under the new owner with the discount? Or would that be too transparent? Way I see it is either Cox charges those in need less money..or they are probably going to cancel service anyway. Some money is better then no money.

To clarify the requirements to sign up: you need to have not been a customer in the last 90 days, not have an outstanding balance with us, and qualify as low income.  A check may be done to make sure you were not an authorized user on an account that had service within the last 90 days as well.
