Cox landline receiving spoofed calls from my cell phone #

I can only assume this is some sort of caller id spoofing, but why? Today, as I was going out, our cox landline rang. I glanced at the caller id and was annoyed to see my own cell phone number listed as being the caller. I picked up and gave them an earful then hung up. They called right back  and didn't say a thing. They did not call a third time, as that is legal harassment, and whoever it was is considerate like that...

I can not block my own number! I can't access the cox online phone records either. What is going on? additional info: My cell number was on the caller id without an area code listed, so it just looked local. Why or how would a overseas scammer bother linking up my cell phone with the cox landline, which is not even in my name, but my husbands? Very strange.

If I had not been home at the time, my husband would have answered rightfully thinking it was I who was calling, so they are not only spoofing my number, but possibly impersonating myself.  Why?

Don't take their calls personally.  They don't know you.  They're not calling YOU but, instead, it's computers dialing programmed numbers.

As far as linking your landline to your cellular number, you know companies, businesses and gov't agencies are compromising our personal data every day...which would include our contact information.  Hacker steal it and sell it.  Or maybe a company you do business with sold it.  Who knows.  It's already out there and will again find its way out there.

Somebody took the data, compiled it, formatted it and programmed it into a computer.  They probably lopped off the area code so you'd take a second look at the number and answer out of shear curiosity.  It worked and they're probably used to receiving an earful.

Why would they do it?  They want your money.  They're greedy for it.  With more and more people becoming suspicious of any and all calls, they're using various social-engineering methods to get you to pick-up the phone.

Did they get your name right on the caller ID?  Meaning, was it an exact match to your actual caller ID?  I wouldn't think the Name field of caller ID info would be on stolen data...so they'd have to concoct something.  Just curious.

Hi dess20, re: "can't access the cox online phone records", are you logging into Phone Tools using the primary Cox user id for your account? If yes, please send us an email with your complete home address/name of the primary account holder as it appears on the billing statement/Cox PIN, or last 4SSN. Please include your userid that you are using to login with. We can check to see why you are not a able to access Phone Tools. Add the link to this thread to your email: http://bit.ly/1Our6VQ.

Signing into the Cox website has become a nuisance.

First, my security software has to block 35 tracking cookies...which are all advertisers trying to build behaviorally-targeted ads based on my browsing history.

Second, the zip-code pop-up blocks my logon link.  The pop-up reports, "...we do not offer service in your zip code: 30319"...which isn't even close to me.  30319 is Atlanta, GA...which is 633 miles away.  So I have to click to close that.

Third, after logging on, I get another pop-up:  "Go All Digital with Cox on Mar 15, 2016!"  I know, so I have to click to close that.

Then, if I'm lucky to see any call history, the numbers are listed as "Unavailable"...which doesn't make sense because my other caller ID tools (telephone and call blocker) correctly display the information.  Why not display it?  I want to review it.

Hi Bruce,

Please clear all cookies and disable any cookie blocking or privacy protection you have in your security software, just to trouble shoot. Let me know if the issues continue.

I just got another call on my cox landline, and it showed up with my name, and my home phone number.

What in the world is happenning?

I signed up long ago on the "do not call list".

When you sign up it takes a few weeks for it to take effect. However you can expect many more robot calls before it does.

Someone has hacked you number when you first signup.

After further reading the rules, I found out that our supposed leaders, are exempt from the DNC List.

Now isn't that lovely?

I want to know why my landline calls itself?

And why does cox only allow blocking to a previous dertimined amount of numbers?

We should be able to block an unlimited amount of numbers.

If this don't stop, I will only be using my cell number, and take landline out.

"Do Not Call", don't mean squat.

"Do Not Call" is a joke... a placebo button.  Don't expect anything meaningful to be done about the criminals who knowingly harass when the problem they provoke presents such an opportunity to profiteer for the telephone industry (NOT just Cox).
