cox internet data cap is just ridiculous

this day of age, you still have data cap on internet plan? this is beyond ridiculous, even cellphone offers unlimited data nowadays. and since you are rolling out 1g internet, don't tell me you still put data cap on that, if you do, I have to say whoever come up with that idea is beyond crazy, for example, let's say you still put 250G on a 1g plan, if the user is trying to use it to its full potential, it will hit the cap in just few hours.

Most cell phone providers don't offer unlimited Data. I think Sprint was the last one and that may change since being bought out. Maybe TMobile, but I think they are owned by someone now too? Hard to keep track. And you will only hit your cap faster if you do something to constantly saturate your download bandwidth. If you don't you will go through your data plan as fast as normal. You will just have to wait less while it downloads or buffers. Its like getting a bigger gas tank, doesn't mean you spend more on gas per week.

As for ISP, even less offer unlimited bandwidth. I think Verizon and Google are the only ones, not including local start ups. While I do agree the bandwidth caps should be increased, I do not think it helps to present the debate in such a negative light. It comes off as just a rant, and not the intellectual conversation it needs to be.

Personally I don't think there needs to be any "intellectual conversation" about data caps being too low. Please note I am ONLY talking about hard line CABLE internet, not wireless. While there may be limits on the available bandwidth that can be delivered, my educated guess is that 95% of the people don't use 1/10, or even 1/25 of what they are buying. That said, those that do should not be punished, threatened with turnoffs, pay overage or anything else. There is plenty of bandwidth on a cable line, they could open it up to a LOT higher speeds and have much more bandwidth that could be delivered. They just don't and won't, so they can hold a hole card to rape people for more money whenever they decide they want to.  There are a lot larger files, a lot more streaming, a lot more everything going on on the internet.

The data caps are ridiculous. For 100 bucks a month I should be able to use more than 13.3 gigs a day if I want to. We don't need to sit here and get into any intellectual nonsense and bureaucratize the facts. Data caps are FAR too little for today's market, every cable company knows it. A whole lot of customers do now too, they keep getting these ridiculous scary warning emails. It's plain and obvious and doesn't need debate.

Be outspoken. Rant, rave and fume. These warnings about data caps are ridiculous, they scare people into going to the highest tier and it's still not enough with the way people use the net now.

All that said, I'm pleased that Cox, at least, doesn't charge for overage.

I completely agree with you smtips.  I'm a gamer and I buy a lot of games on Steam/Origin/UPlay/PSN and nowadays, it's not unusual for me to buy a couple games a week that are 30+ GB each as the games seem to just keep getting bigger and bigger.  I also stream a lot of movies as do the kids, along with Youtube and online gaming etc etc.  300GB/mo is an insanely ridiculous data cap and I was blown away when they doubled our speeds recently yet didn't raise the cap at all lol.  It's not like me and my family are trying to use as much data as possible it's just how it is, it's how we have always done it's just stuff is getting larger and larger as time progresses so we cannot help it.  I'm not going to say "Well I want to buy this game but I have to wait until next month due to my internet cap" that's just stupid.  I love the Cox service, it's fast as heck and works fantastic and they've always been great with support but that cap needs to either go away or increase drastically.  It should be treated the same was as minimum wage, how it increases as the cost of living increases regularly.  Since the cost (size) of things have increased greatly along with the amount of things done digitally/streaming, so should the cap along with it.
