contour on the dvr 2 box, do I need it?

Im a little confused.  Do I get contour on my dvr 2 box?  And if not why would I be charged $11.99 a month for it?

Hi Mydilemma,

What model DVR do you have? It sounds like you have one of our 2-tuner DVRs. For help identifying your digital receiver, check http://bit.ly/CableBoxIndex. The DVR Service Fee for 2-tuner DVRs is $11.99. Does this help to clear up your confusion? We're happy to answer any other questions you may have!

My model dvr is the explorer 8240HDC.  It is the 2 tuner not the 6 tuner.  So what you are saying is that if I rent the dvr it will have a $11.99 service fee whether I have contour or not because the fee is listed as a countour fee.

When you rent a Cox DVR, there is a DVR Service Fee in addition to the receiver rental fee(s). The Scientific Explorer DVRs use the Rovi Guide, not the Contour Guide. The prices are the same for the Cisco 2-tuner DVRs that have the Contour Guide. The Record-6 Contour DVR has a service fee of $19.99. What are you looking at that shows a "Contour fee"?

Question to Becky: Since all DVRs *REQUIRE* a service fee and a rental fee, why not just combine the two fees:

2-tuner DVR = $20.49   6-tuner DVR = $28.49  ??

???

Next to my account # it says change services I clicked that, Then it goes to view and upgrade services,  I clicked view current services and it shows a dvr service fee AND a contour tv package fee, both for 11.99 each

This is so typical of cox support!  I was answering questions from cox support about my account so that maybe cox support might answer my ORIGINAL POST!  Instead I get passed around to billing now?
