Connecting my Sony TV to the Cox Cable box

One of the HDMI outlets on my Sony TV has stopped working.  I would like to connect my BluRay using the other HDMI connection.  However, my question is then, can I use one of those large multi lined cables to connect my TV to the Cox Cable box.  If so, how?

My cable has 5 separate lines.  Three are fatter and there is a blue, green and red connector.  The other 2 lines are a little smaller and they are red and white.

Thank you.

Grammy P,

Those are indeed component cables and their stereo audio mates. They go from your cable box COMPONENT OUTPUT and stereo audio output to your TV's COMPONENT INPUT and its paired stereo audio input. As requested above, please give us your TV and STB model numbers. Not all equipment has component inputs/outputs.

Connect component (5 wires) to cable box, using the connections circled here. Then connect the other end to the TV ports circled here. Then using the Sony remote, change the input on the TV to "Component".

Yes, most HD cable boxes have component (5 wires). Should be color coded, just make sure the two smaller wires (red and white) connect to audio. For specifics I would need to know what model TV and cable box you have.

My TV is a Sony Brava model KDL-40BX420, purchased in 2013.

The Cox Cable box says HDTV Cable,  Explorer 8642HDC.  it was hooked up
just this past Sept 21, 1914.  Just almost 2 months ago.

Thank you for any/all your help.

Are you sure that the HDMI input on the TV is bad? Have you tried connecting your Blu-ray to each of the HDMI connectors on the TV?

I haven't tried hooking up the blu ray with an hdmi and I will before I try the other method.  I just know the Cox cable box won't work on it.  When the installer was here he told me that it was not working so he had to unhook the blu ray player and use that connection for the cable box.  To my knowledge he didn't try the blu ray on the second HDMI as he told me he could not do that type of installation.

I'll try this today and let you know.  Thanks for your help.

Thank you!!!  The HDMI port must be bad because it did not recognize the Blu Ray player either.  I was able to connect the Cox Cable Box using the 5 wire cable successfully!  and the Blu Ray player is hooked up also.

Thank you again for all your help and efforts to get me up and working with all my components and also to educate me on how to do this again sometime if needed.

You're truly appreciated!!!
