Connecting my Cisco DPC3825 to a Netgear WNR2000

All,

I have a Cisco DPC3825 cable modem / wireless router.  The range is TERRIBLE.  As a result, I am looking to connect a Netgear WNR2000 router to the Cisco DPC3825.  Here is what I understand I need to do based on looking at other forums:

1.) Disable wireless, DHCP and firewall on the Cisco DPC3825

2.) Enable wireless, DHCP and firewall (standard config) on the Netgear WNR2000

3.) Connect the Netgear WNR2000 to the Cisco DPC3825 on the "Internet Port" of the Netgear to the #1 position port on the Cisco DPC3825

I did this, and no dice.  I get no internet connection from the wireless router.  Thoughts?  Ideas?

Why not just trade the Cisco gateway for a modem and use your netgear as the router? Having two network next to each other doesn't help. At best it will be as strong as which ever has stronger Wifi. but it could be weaker from interference.

Didnt know that was a possibility.  Is that available with Cox?  Anyone from Cox on here?

Yes, the gateway devices are not mandatory.  They are the preferred devices we issue however customers can still have their own modems provisioned.

Why are they the preferred devices? I can understand it being a option, but I would think since Cox doesn't support the devices really...why prefer them?

The idea is you get an 8 channel D3 modem and a wireless router for connecting all of your devices in the home.  For most customers these devices work out pretty well however for those that have specific requirements or are just generally more advanced users you may benefit by having a separate modem/router.
