Cisco DTA 250HD (Cox Mini Box) remote codes

I have been a cox cable customer for many years now, I have been a cable subscriber and use my media center PC as a DVR. Now with the switch to all digital I have to use the recently issued Cisco brand Cox Mini Box (from what I understand this is a Cisco DTA 250HD).

I have now switched to my XboxOne as my media center (since MS dropped support of Windows Media Center with Windows 10, however they will start allowing TV DRV with xboxone in the near future) so I thought all would be great again. However NO ONE seems to know what the remote codes are for this mini box??? I know others are having the same issue with Tivo and Harmony remotes. When can we expect to see these codes released?

This is unacceptable to release a device that you can ONLY control with the provided remote. I will soon be dropping my cable subscription and cutting the cord if this is not resolved soon.

For those with the same problem, but using the non cisco branded mini box I understand others have been able to get it to work using Make: Evolution Model: DMS2344UHDS Compatible Remote Code: C4079

Nathan C,

We do not have a release date for the codes you are requesting. We will however forward your comments to our programming team for review.

Same issue - long time customer of COX with limited to no need for expensive set top boxes that are cash cows for cable companies. The decision to force customers to use equipment for which limited to no support is offered is completely unacceptable when that service cost is a minimum of $100 per month. I have my mini boxes for testing and if the test and issues are not resolved very soon this customer will leave for sat TV, OTA service, and streaming. There'll be no need for the content Cox seemingly thinks they control. The remote control code to the mini box is essential to avoid costly equipment replacement. Cox, you have about 4 weeks before I cancel the service, or Cox could postpone the mandate to switch to digital until your customer base has proper time to prepare. In addition, I am fairly certain legislation mandates the cable company to provide cablecards for free. So while the mini boxes are free now, in one year they cost $3 per month, or whatever Cox deems necessary to maintain their bottom line. Let's have the Cox reps in the store trained on the legislation and be ready to hand out cablecards for free, OK COX!

I wanted to provide some input in case it will help someone (it would have helped me).  My 83 year old, blind grandmother has neuropathy and cannot feel, much less see the tiny remote.  While this probably isn't an ADA issue, it's greatly disappointing that Cox executed this move to digital so poorly that the likely audience for the mini box was left out to dry.

So in an effort to remedy the situation, I built a device that accepts codes from my Grandma's giant remote and routes them to her Panasonic TV or the Cisco DTA 250HD.  In building that device, I had to analyze the infrared protocol from the Cisco mini box remote.  For those who understand what all this means, it should be helpful.  If not, my apologies for the jibberish.

The IR protocol is NEC and most closely resembles a Zenith or Insignia Digital TV converter box, but likely will not respond to those codes.  It's worth a try though to see if one of those might work.  NEC transmits 32 bits of data for the command.  It appears the "device" code is F506, the first 16 bits, and the command is the next 16 bits.  Here are codes I logged:

Channel Up = 0xF5062CD3
Channel Down = 0xF506AC53
Number 0 = 0xF50608F7
Number 1 = 0xF5068877
Number 2 = 0xF50648B7
Number 3 = 0xF506C837
Number 4 = 0xF50628D7
Number 5 = 0xF506A857
Number 6 = 0xF5066897
Number 7 = 0xF506E817
Number 8 = 0xF50618E7
Number 9 = 0xF5069867

Hope this helps someone.

Get a Android TV box and cut that cord.  I will be doing this same thing.  I have already cut one TV off from cable and switched to Android TV.  I get all the TV programs I could ever want.  Also I no longer need a DVR because you can always watch previous shows.
