cisco 9865hdc issues

This is the host DVR but I have the same issues with the client Cisco box.  At times for unknown reasons, there is a lag between remote entry and action at the box.  For example, when you select guide on the remote, it takes several seconds for the guide to actually open.  This gives the appearance that the remote selection didn't take so it is made again and again.  Now, when the box finally acts on the command, it acts on all the commands as if all were given in immediate succession.  This feels eerily similar to internet lag when too many people are on a server at the same time.

I would suggest first trying to swap out the batteries in the remote with fresh ones to see if that has any effect.  Something else I'd check is to try re-positioning the box if it currently sits in such a way that a lot of light from the TV is shining on the front of it.  We've seen some cases where the bulbs from the LCD TVs produce light noise that interferes with the infrared remote transmissions.

Batteries are good.  Cisco box is nowhere near the TV as the TV is mounted high on the wall.  Cisco box is in a component rack and is not obstructed in anyway.  The issue is not with the remote.  It is with the network.  The best way to describe it is like that Cox commercial for business internet where one actor's lines are a step  behind the others.  Unplugging the box for a minute fixes the problem but messes up any shows being recorded when unplugged.  I have to unplug the box 2 to 3 times a day to reset it.  Skipped channels feature still doesn't work properly either.  You guys really need to roll out a firmware and/or software update fast.

I'm wondering if it's just a box issue at this point if that other stuff didn't help.  I've one one of these in my home and haven't had similar experiences.  We could setup a trouble call to come out and investigate further if you like.

Have had both the host and client boxes replaced.  Since it is whole home, a tech has to come to the house for this.  The tech tried to get the skipped channels feature to work and was unsuccessful, even with the new boxes.  At that time, we weren't experiencing the controller lag.  The controller lag just started to get bad in the last 2 weeks.  Possibly related to the number of shows that have recorded or are scheduled to record (just a guess here as that is really the only thing that has changed).  Techs contacted via telephone state it is most likely a software/firmware issue related to the interactive guide.

I have found that it's not a DELAY issue, but the 9865HDC box has 2 remote sensors on the front just above the "cisco" label. If I cover the LEFT sensor, then the remote works fine. With both uncovered, I can barely get a response from where I sit. I have traded out the receiver and it still has the issue. The Client receivers work just fine, as they only have 1 sensor

*I still have to lean forward as I sit 15ft or so away, and it seems just too far for the receiver.

Covering the left sensor - as with jw154j - works. Use two or three posit notes to cover the left sensor and all is well.

I looked everywhere, in every manual/datasheet/white paper I could find and I couldn't even figure out where the IR sensors are on this box. If its effecting multiple people, I doubt its a hardware defect. Must be either a design flaw or some kind of middleware issue.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if you cover both sensors, hold down amy remote key that repeats the cable function (Channel up) and then uncover the sensor? Is the delay the same?
